Try 11.5 and 16. E and A.
That is a nice sounding mandolin, but Colin makes them all sound really good. Check his other videos: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=colin+botts
I wonder what “fingerboard nuts” were?
The best I’ve ever played…probably a 1980 or so, Nugget. It seemed impossibly responsive and loud. The best—my favorite—that I’ve owned? My Pomeroy A2. It transports me every time I play it.
What a great family duo, Ondrej!
And lubricate nut slots with pencil lead.
You pick some really sweet tunes, John! Thank you!
How come so many Celtic airs sound so familiar? That’s a rhetorical question. So much of American music has Celtic roots.
I don’t, but I’ve used their Silk & Bronze set and have always liked them. I ‘think’ they might be less tension.
Very nice, John! You pick good ones and play them well.
I do like the clever way they got that annoying E string out of the way. :disbelief:
Hey, I think I was in Bruce’s shop when he was working on your inlay! Very nice!
Bruce is the best! How do you like that Bighorn? I remember when you bought it…I had my eye in it, too.
You never disappoint,Frank!
Gorgeous instrument, visually and sonically! And what a venue! Congratulations, Jo!
Really nice, Jesse! Great tune, great rendition.
Nice everything!!!

I agree with both of you. The first one sounded a little ‘fuller,’ for lack of a better term. I wish he had said which one was the wide nut model. I don’t see how that would make the difference, but...
Thank you, Doug. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong with posting an MP3. It doesn’t play for me.
That “not human” backup is Strum Machine, btw.
One more time…

I’m sorry, I give up.
I’ll try again…
The Humours of Glynn, backup from Strum Machine.

Failed again. Is there a max file size for attachments?
Fail. :(
I bought a 1910 Gibson A from the classified recently, thinking all paddleheads were built with a 1-3/6” nut width. As soon as I opened the case, I could see that this one had a narrow nut. 1-1/8”...
Reviving this one in a new format.
