I think what you are looking for is something with a "thicker" tone. Perhaps something with a cedar top? But if you are looking for a classical sound (like on a bowlback), with some punch, a...

I have owned a couple of Breedloves, both f holes. For me, Breedlove is a unique aesthetic and tone in mandolins. I believe this was Kim Breedloves vision - to make high quality american made...

    Re: Mandolin in the classifieds

This talking about yourself in the third person (in an e-mail!) is like something out of a Seinfeld episode.
  4. Differences in E-mandos (and E-guitars)

So, I purchased the new Fender as my first e-mando, tricked it out with the replacement MG bridge and Allmuse PU, and having a blast with it. I got to thinking (dangerous) about these electric...

I don't have mine yet but the G is supposed to be a 36: http://www.fender.com/en-CA/series/folk/mando-strat/

    Re: Arm Rests?

I have standardized to McClung armwrests on all of my mandos. For me they elevate my wrist to a more ergonomic position. More than just comfort, better efficiency.

    Re: Mandolin prices

I agree that in "trying" an instrument out and being exposed to the awkwardness of the first couple of years of playing should influence your entry investment.

Two factors can come in to play,...

    Re: $390 Shippiing Charge

Obviously this is an error showing UPS international shipping rates to a US destination. It is true that UPS or FedEx absolutely hose international shipping rates with brokerage fees. Mandolins can...
  12. Re: Thankfully, no Mandolin content here.

I think it is fabulous. Tom Waits is an incredible talent whom uses many different voices as characters in the same way an actor does. It is hard to say what his "natural" singing voice is.

I recognize that uncompensated bridge. It maybe ebony but it is worth less than $20. Absolute red flag about the quality of the "restoration".

Re: Rock genre songs with mandolin

I realize this is from a very old post, but I have always wondered about that song. I was a huge Mott the Hoople/Mick Ralphs fan. Although the mandolin is a little thin sounding, the measured...

    Re: the Phoenix Neo-Classical...tone

I have one, a Europa II (european woods), and it is a unique mandolin indeed. The strings are perfect for the way it is constructed - the mandolin is loud enough, resonant but not fuzzy, each note...

Re: New Collings MT-GTO on order

I use J74s on my Breedlove Alpine F hole, and J75s on my Altman and Elkhorn. These, especially, the J75s, give more "pop" that I prefer for the projection of the F holes.

Re: New Collings MT-GTO on order
