I do wish I hadn't sold one tube amp, my all time fav. It was a 1966 Ampeg Gemini 6 where I replaced the 15" ceramic Jenson with a 50's 15" Alnico Jensen. I LOVED that amp. However, I could not...
Here is the sound I strive for:

I REALLY like that tiny bit of breakup at the beginning of his hard attacked notes that then turns into...
I play 4 or 5 string electric to play Western Swing!
Clash resolve is what makes melodies and especially improvisation work to my ears. Spend time playing “wrong” notes and finding where they resolve. Then see how to make those resolve points even...
I’ve played many of Gary’s mandolins, he was a student for a good while before getting into building. Really good instruments!
“Anything played wrong twice in a row is the beginning of an arrangement”
I must be an arranging master by now! :mandosmiley::mandosmiley::mandosmiley:
That 3:03 solo is definitely Gimble. I’ve transcribed several solos with those phrases.
Thanks much Joel!!!
Paul told me this when taking some lessons from him many moons back. Stupid me didn’t believe him (A flat HAS to be harder than A!!!). After really getting into bebop and playing with players who...

It is my belief that you don't JUST practice slow, but you have to do it ENOUGH and CONSISTENTLY to get excellent co-ordination between your hands, which is where quality tone comes from.
A favorite C7 to F phrase.

I'm no expert in old Gibsons so take this with a grain of salt. This looks like 2 I've seen many years ago and was told they were both from the early 30's.
Gibson, especially the guitars and...
I think you need to spend at least some time every practice playing slower than 50% of normal speed. You don't just practice this way, but you do need to devote a decent percent of your practice to...
Ugh, sorry to hear that Matt. I know a few friends that have had instruments stolen from their cars in Seattle this year. Very sad...
This way is best by FAR!!
That said there are are number of Sam transcriptions at my web site. I learned a large amount of Sam in the early 80s.
Surrounding target notes, a very common bebop sound.

Ryans/Coles is the best fiddle tune collection I’ve ever played from. Highly recommended.
