Agreed. The Feather that is mounted internally seems much more sensitive to taps etc. than the Hot Spot though. I isolated most of the additional noise of the Hot Spot to not having it secured...
Thanks for the addtional ideas...keep 'em coming! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I did some experimenting yesterday and found that the K&K Hot Spot placed behind...
I'd love to be miced, but I just don't see that as an option. I don't trust the sound guys, a couple excepted, anyway http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. Ultimately, I...
I'm starting to gig with a country/folk artist locally playing a mix of electric guitar and mandolin and I need to figure out how to get the best sound out of my mandolin (a Breedlove Quartz KF).
...
I have a Quartz F. #I'm very happy with it. #As a recovering guitar player, I find the wider neck, bigger frets, and radiused board to be much more comfortable. #It's not as easy to do tremelo and,...
So, let's see...I now know of 6 Calgarians (or close) on this board (and there were another 3-4 "known" mando pickers at the Tim O'Brien show...some of whom are on here, I'm sure).
I've had two...
I did. I always feel stupid asking for one, but, hey, I just happened to have a CD insert and a Sharpee in my pocket... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .

I believe it was Luke Reynolds, but the short term memory isn't what it used to be. #Luke Richardson is, indeed, a hockey player (or, at least, one is). #Craig Korth was the banjo player who, among...
I agree. The Quartz series are a GREAT value. I bought a used KF for a bit under $1000 in near mint condition.
I find triangles and to be to pointy and bright too. #I also find Proplecs to be a bit dark. #So, I got to work on my Tortis C and Proplec triangle and took all the corners off and messed with the...
Muths are relatively common around here as we are near to him and his mandos represent a great value (and are in CDN bucks). So, I've seen a number of them around, but I've only played one in a jam....
I totally agree...now. #I love Tortis with my acoustic guitar. #But, two of the four I had didn't sound nearly as good as the other two. #So, I went to work on them with the sandpaper and emory board...
I've only seen and played one and it sounded and played great to my ears. It was on older one that an instructor at a workshop I attended owned. This one had a nice fat, punchy tone and played like...
I just bought a used KF from a friend. I love it. It sounds good and plays as well as anything I've picked up. I haven't had too much chance to jam with it, but I'm pretty sure it will sound fine in...
In my limited experience picking mandolin, the Wegen M150 sounds the best to me by far. But, I find the shape uncomfortable for chopping out the chords (it's the way I hold it...too much fingertip...
Just about two months now since I bought an Eastman 605... I've played guitar for 25 years or so, so the picking and chording came fairly quickly (as long as it's mostly major chords and the odd...
No duty. USPS is cheapest as noted. You have to pay a $5 (or did it go up?) handling fee and the taxes. UPS and FedEx will charge brokers fees which are usually ridiculous. There are ways around the...
I just got a 605 this week...my first mandolin after years of picking a geetar. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I think the Eastmans are a great value.
(my first week here too...cool hang)
