I bet it not only looks good, and sounds good... it probably smells good too!
The cool tune is Monroe's 'Old Dangerfield' (or as sometimes titled, 'Old Daingerfield'). From Monroe's 'Master of Bluegrass album.
Nice picking - and I genuinely believe that if you recorded that in a studio, with a really good mic, it would be virtually impossible to distinguish that from other mandolins in the $5-10K price...

With Bose and bass, I was thinking of the L1 model 2 with the B2 bass module, though if you really slam out a lot of bass, then even then I suspect a separate bass amp or regular style PA with bins...
Bass at low to modest levels works... I would not like to push too much through them, though. Better off running a separate bass amp in my opinion. Certainly they are not really designed for that....
I use the TAD 60.
Pleased to hear you had success. Yes, the positive comments from performers, audience and other sound techs on these are something you'll have to get used to :mandosmiley:.
We have an upcoming...
Houseworker is 100% correct.
It can be worth getting certain articles from the US, things you cannot source at all in Europe, but for many things it makes no sense at all. It is not just a "few...
I think the days of "Made in China" = low end rubbish are long gone. You have to remember, people also had that attitude with "Made in Japan" at one point. Now that is seen as a badge of quality....
The Fishman Aura Spectrum DI does a decent job of this, but it is not as good a mic - nothing is. It is also not cheap. If you have to plug in, though, they do remove 'quack' and you can dial out the...
The problem with listings like this is that when something is described as "mint", and perfectly obviously is not, it is not exactly a confidence booster in the seller, is it? To me, "mint" means...
I just hope we now see a lot more "musically irrelevant" old D-18's and D-28's hitting the market for peanuts.
The key advantage of 24 over 16 bit depth is found later, in editing. Especially when normalizing the tracks. You have a lot more headroom and the noise floor is substantially better (around 115dB vs...
Very nice picking. Not heard a harmony part for that tune done like that before. It works!
Change of spec (freq response is slightly different) and much improved mounting system.
Good mics, both of them.
Someone has been busy with those counterfeit waterslide decals you see on ebay.
I would not pay $100 for a Samick.
$50 tops.
As Allen says, "Pilgrim" is just a name applied to generic instruments made mostly in China. The exact same instruments appear under other names, such as "Barnes & Mullins", "Gremlin", "Ozark" etc....
We keep recommending Kentucky (and Eastman) because, in their price range they are well made, offer good value, and are playable, good sounding instruments. They are also very reliable in terms of...
B&M import from various 'generic' factories in China. They are OK for the money. This appears to be a pressed top/back (not carved) mandolin. At that price point, options are limited. You might just...
I'd grab that fast for $200 or less.
Solid top, hand-built... and from that picture, it does indeed look like it is a solid brazilian rosewood back/sides.
Needs a bit of work, but nothing that...
The current Gibson F-5's (G's and Ferns) are pretty hard to beat...quality now is exceptional under Dave Harvey.
The problem in some regards (if you can call it that) is once you get into good mandolins personal taste has as much to do with it as anything. I have played (and once owned one) a couple of Loar's...
