I saw it today at IBMA...took one quick look, but got distracted by the $225K Loar over at Elderly's booth. One was impressive, one wasn't.
I had a 2001 F-5L and I liked the tobacco color of the finish on it more than I like the current reddish tint on the Ferns. Those older Ferns looked more like the current Master Models.
I've been working on a song called, "It don't cost nothing." Your post gives me some inspiration to finish it now...thanks! It was going to be a little bluegrass diddy, but now I think I'll refine it...
Our band has been together for about seven years now, and we have had our "hiatus" periods. We go for a month and don't play, and when we get back together the magic usually comes back around. We...
"The Loar" Ho Hum.
around eight years of playing.
I feel confined in my playing currently
I would like to improve on my breaks...they sound a little thin to me at times.
I've been for several years, and will be there again this year. We should all hook up over a few lovely beverages and some picky picky!
Never heard of 'em.
I had a 2001 F-5L, signed by Danny Roberts. Nice mandolin for sure!
Dennis Vance at The Mandolin Store...Top Notch.
I agree with the strings...hard to get any sound from the mandolin without them. When Yogi Berra was managing the Yankees, his first pick in the draft was a catcher that had a batting average around...
I have a Loar style case and in the small compartment I keep a clip on tuner, a pair of reading glasses, a tin of Snarling Dog picks, and a folded up cleaning cloth. It's amazing that all of that...
I second the Jubilee polish...great stuff. You can get it from Cumberland Acoustics as well.
I've never had one stolen...I know that's got to be sick feeling. I've got both of my mandolins heavily insured just in case the unthinkable ever happens.
I have a couple of the Red Bear tortoise picks, and every time I use them I tend to hear more pick noise than I really like. I like the way they feel in my hand, but usually find myself going back to...
All you guys have been fooled...the above case is actually a new distressed model F5 case, (with extra distressing.) I have to admit that this is the only case I've ever seen like that...too cool.
MAS: Alternate meaning: (Money All Spent)
C.J.'s mandolin is "funkier than a mosquito's tweeter," as Ike Turner would say. He's a really nice guy.
Biorkman, I would highly recommend trying some of the Jubilee polish. I got mine from Cumberland Acoustics...great stuff!
One last question, Dave...It doesn't look like a distressed model from the pictures, (as far as I can tell.) Is there a reason for selecting a nondistressed model over a standard Master Model? I...
Dave, I have V70446 signed by Casey Sullivan. I'm not sure how many of the Master Models he signed, but it's one is one of the best I've ever played, especially for being just over a year old. It's...
A buddy of mine has an F-9, and he likes it pretty well. It sounds good, and I was with him when he bought it new at Guitar Center a few years ago. I think he paid $1800 for it.
Allright Dave...tech problems are unacceptable. By the way, Jubilee polish is awesome.
Looking forward to pictures and info on your new MM.
I don't know about Dave's mandolin pictures...would like to see them. I thought maybe he was posting a new MM for us to look at. Maybe it's the new Mikey G model I've been waiting to be released....
