I have used a wedge to change the angle and it can work very well. The suggestion to find longer screws is a good.

Adrian's plans are a great edition to your study as well
My scroll thickness per plate is 7/16"
Lol there's something going on with my typing too.
It may be just me, but it looks like the end pin has been pushed way in t o the tapered hole. I wonder if the tailback is split. Something looks odd to me.
I really need to raise my prices lol.
That is very hard lacquer. It was a royal pain to remove. Scraped a good bit of it. I steamed out the neck and removed the bridge. Have the body at 80 grit. Hope to re-stain today. I understand why...
Thanks Skip, yes I slotted it. 22 inch scale. I've only done 3 of these. I now have a request for an F model. The A model fits in longer tenor banjo cases.
Charley, it is a lefty. I'm pleased that...

Just sent this Octave out the other week. Red spruce over red maple. Minimal truoil finish. I've never done truoill over a black surface.
I mix my shellac from flakes but that's a thought. I just ordered their instrument lacquer. I'm hoping that will solve it. I had ordered the wrong product. This old brain ain't what it used to be.

Yep. Nothing quite like backing up. Oh well, hopefully a lesson we'll learned.
Just typed the number on the Mohawk site. Furniture finish. I assumed my sales rep would know Bryce Instruments would want lacquer for instruments. My bad. Homework 1st, place order 2nd.
It's the M610 10-25807 clear lacquer. Possibly the wrong kind.
Thanks to all. I do get a moisture in my air lines but have traps and try to stay on top of it.
I'm glad to hear the lacquer is more than likely ok.
Onward thru the fog.
Can't seem to load a pictures a picture I select the file and it shows in the window but never given an option to upload.
Do any of you builders use Mohawk lacquer?
Have you bought any recently?
I've been using Mohawk stains in my shop for years. A month or so ago I thought I'd try their lacquer as well.
I've...
The guy on YouTube really needs to chop off those corners. That looked like a sore elbow in the works.
Pretty bad looking ending hole. I can't tell if it's tapered. If you can get a pin to stay in it I guess it's OK. Not sure about the shavings or the gunk ont the tailpiece.
I'm building an octave mandolin with a really nice set of red spruce from Old Standard Wood.
Bracewood is cheap. I'd not use wood that wasn't properly sealed and seasoned for braces. You'd hate to have to open it up again down the road.
Opps duplicate
Seems the last time I dealt with fisheye I sanded as usual and gave it a coat of shellac. The next coat of lacquer was fine .
I would suggest always backing off string pressure a bit before raising the saddle.
