Re: Collings mt-1 and mt-2 serial numbers

I own #33, also labeled MT1SB and dated 1-00. I showed it to Bill at the Music Emporium years ago and he told me that he had a batch of excellent Engleman spruce that he used for these. It had a...
  2. Re: Blue Chip. lose it and see how it affects you

I try not to use my BC picks if there's a chance that they'll slip through the cracks. That said, a couple of weeks ago in Maine I jammed on a deck for hours and didn't lose my pick. It would have...

Re: Lots of Ellis Mandolins for sale

I still own my 2010 Ellis A Special, with no plans to sell. However, I do think that these things run in cycles as you said. Before I bought mine, there was lots of buzz on the Cafe about Ellis. ...

    Re: Thile lesson

I watched the video after first reading the comments and, yes, complaints. I heard CT and his mandolin clearly - zero "unbearable background noise." It was a clear lesson, easily understandable,...

Re: I can't get myself to change strings

Yeah, I need to change strings too. I usually have to change them when they still sound okay but have lost their "bounce" and become kind of hard to move.

    Re: Post Your Ellis A5

Baron, yours was the first Ellis that I ever played, I think. You and a friend were busking in front of Thornes Market, and when I commented on it you let me give it a try, which was very nice. You...

    Re: Post Your Ellis A5

'Course we care. Beautiful instrument, stupendous back. Do you know if it's red or sugar maple?

I believe that mine is the only one that he's built with this combination of appointments: gold...

    Re: Collings love

Plenty of humans touch each Collings instrument as its made. It's a crazier world than I thought if folks get defensive about owning a Collings.
  13. Re: Elkhorn #34 (Mango), what a neat looking mandolin

Very nice. I wonder if it is too nontraditional for purists.

Re: So I bought a Blue Chip pick-my impressions

I've been grabbing my TD35 a lot, even though it is quite a bit lighter than what I'm used to. It's great for strumming the guitar.

Re: So I bought a Blue Chip pick-my impressions

First, I don't really care whether or not anyone else tries a Blue Chip. I'm not trying to win people over. Buy one or don't, the world will keep spinning. Second, I saved a few bucks on my TD60...

Re: So I bought a Blue Chip pick-my impressions

I'll also point out that, just like conventional picks, the thickness of the BC makes a big difference in sound quality which is why I have three.

Re: So I bought a Blue Chip pick-my impressions

Although I'm far from wealthy, I don't consider the price of BC picks to be an issue. However, the prospect of losing one is, to me, a concern. In fact, I lost my first BC and waited quite awhile...

    Re: Sierra Hull

I'm sorry to say that I missed her recently (and Andy Statman, too, different show!) at a venue not 5 minutes from my house. I did hear her in Vermont a couple of years ago, though.
  19. Re: Does anyone offer cassettes of their band?

There actually are folks that are still into cassettes, and yes, even 8-tracks. Over on the Audio Karma forum website they discuss such things endlessly. But I agree with the members who say...

Nice. I used to own a Rigel in "Atomic Sunburst", which was kind of disturbing. And very red.
