    Re: Waverly tuner adjustment

I'm sorry but you don't seem to grasp the engineering principles involved here. The ring in question is indeed an adjustment ring, even if StewMac prefer that owners don't attempt the adjustment at...

    Re: Waverly tuner adjustment

Ivan, Frank Ford's article has nothing whatever to say about Daryl's very specific problem - that Waverly tuners require a specialist tool (and glue) for adjustment.

    Re: Hard vs. Foam cases

Fly Ryanair and book a seat for your mandolin, it's not like it's expensive.

Alternatively, why not get the ferry?

    Re: fender mandostrat neck adjustment?

The classic Fender truss rod has one clear advantage over the Gibson design in that it doesn't seriously weaken the neck at the upper end. Removing the pick guard generally provides full access to...

    Re: fender mandostrat neck adjustment?

There definitely is a truss rod. The Mandostrats generally shipped with the rod slack, but it certainly tightens ok. If you bought new, you should have been supplied with the correct wrench.

    Re: Gibson Snakehead Model ID

Spann's guide to Gibson gives the FON as a 1923 A2 and the partial SN as a 1925 or 1926 completion for sale. The 1926 numbers start at 79300. You might want to try viewing the label under ultra...
  11. Re: How much does a crack (repaired) depreciate value?

Looking at the selling prices on eBay, I'd guess that you'd get somewhere between $500 and $600 if it comes with a case, and if the damage to the top is not too visible.

It would have been far better if Dem had exercised some discretion in his dealings with Gryphon from the outset rather than appearing happy to trash their reputation.

Re: Loar in classifieds... Ser #75687

The picture at the bottom on the website can be magnified. That shows that most of the frets are installed over the top of the binding (but not on the Florida). So presumably it's had a refret.

Re: Loar in classifieds... Ser #75687

Price is on application. Maybe I'll give them a call in the morning.

It has no patina whatever, as far as one can judge from the pictures on their website, despite being over 90 years old.

Re: How to Upgrade at this Stage

Try D'Addario EJ75s (or EXP75s). The heavier G strings will give more volume and shift the tonal balance away from the high end.

Raise your bridge. This increases the volume, so take it as high...

Re: tuning machines for Gibson A40

Given that it's both the G strings that are affected, it's likely that the cause of the problem is unconnected with the tuners. but that the strings are binding in the nut slots.

We need to see a picture of your tuners so we know exactly what you're dealing with.
