    Re: Elderly Loar

Ricky Skaggs' Loar was on display at one of the Dallas area guitar shows ~4 years ago with a $250,000 price tag on it.

$250,000 and $225,000 are fantasy prices. In these last several months...

Re: string pressure on my octave mando.

Where is the buzzing, the fret at which you are fretting or one closer to the bridge? It shouldn't take too much pressure to fret correctly.

    Re: Weird Tuning Problem

The bridge is too close to the nut. Theoretically, the distance from the nut to the 12th fret should be the same as the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge, though in practice other factors...

    Re: Classic Rock Tab?

www.led-zeppelin.org has mandolin tabs for the mandolin parts of their songs, as well as the guitar, bass, and drum tabs.

Re: converting guitar tab to mandolin tab

The TablEdit program seems to do it, even the trial version. Since the mandolin is higher pitched, you may need to transpose down an octave.

And maybe several members of the Cafe should realize...

    Re: Intelli tuner question

I've noticed the same thing, Blob (if that is your real name). So I don't think it's a problem with your usage. As Jim pointed out, because of the finite number of needle marks there will be a range...

I haven't seen the movie, but it sounds like a Greek baglama:

Re: Dan the man of Constant Sorrow

Who is that in the video?

To the smart alecs, please remember there was a time when you didn't know them either.

The author hit every stereotype one would see in a Bugs Bunny cartoon except lip plates.

Re: To hide, or not to hide

Based on the answers I get for "Why do you need 15 pairs of black shoes?", a woman should understand when a man has 15 mandolins.

    Re: radiused v flat fingerboard

I find that I can fret without touching adjacent strings more easily on my radiused fretboard mando than the flat one.

    Re: Hard Criticism, Please

I will say, knowing full well my playing is at a lower level, that some of the notes sound muted or dulled. Possibly, the right hand and left hand are not in perfect sync, or maybe you are using a...

    Re: "ringing" E or A?

Spenser, I had the same issue you think you might have. I would hear a ringing in a certain room of my apartment while playing. It wasn't the mandolin that was ringing. It was an object in the room,...

I have "The Mandolin Picker's Fakebook" in front of me, if that's what you mean. Everyone is assuming correctly. The boxed letters refer to the section. Some tunes list the keys that individual...

Re: Phoenix Ultra, making me so HAPPY

Congrats. I just played a neoclassical and standard model last Friday, so I know how you feel. It took five seconds of playing to know that I had to have one. Hopefully I'll be joining your club soon.

    Re: Quick tuning/string question

The tuning peg for the A string closest to the D course is nearest the tip of the headstock. If you lay the mandolin down or bump something, such as a chair armrest, that is the peg most likely to be...

I appreciate links to previous posts. But I find the "this has already been discussed" line quite rude, which I imagine is why Scott suggests leaving it out. Many newer or less frequent users, such...

Re: Thrashed 3-pt. F2 on eBay

I say save the tuner buttons and trash the rest. Two questions, one sarcastic, one serious:
Can't dust be wiped away before taking a picture for ebay?
Should a mandolin in that state still be...

    Re: Arriving Today: Labraid LIX

Now I'm sad. Brian's waiting list is going to be years long by the time I save up enough to get another Dean. One good thing about his instruments - though I don't play well enough to justify buying...
