    Re: Identify this one please!!!

    Johan,
Looks a lot like one I had labelled "Crafton", a Swedish brand that I always assumed came from the Levin factory.

I noticed from your post in another Cafe forum that you're in Sweden, so...

Re: Looking for info on "The Adams" mandolin

    Bob,

According to the Mugwumps maker list, there was an Adams Bros. & Co in Illinois, in business c.1897 to c.1903. Timeframe seems right, so that'd be my guess.

    Hope this helps.

    Jeff.

    Re: Help identify this mandolin!

    Hey, all.

The instrument is a "Tahitian Ukulele" , 4 doubled courses of nylon strings ( In fact, the Islanders usually use very light-guage fishing line for strings !).

    It's not very clear in...

    Great thread, this :) !

A couple of my better ones were an early-60's Gibson B-25N acoustic guitar in original case for $125 at a local garage sale...strangely enough, the young American family...

    Jim G & Mike,

This may interest you..it appears the bridge really SHOULD be on the tailpiece side of the cant. Jim, I take it that that's fairly unusual ?

    Re: Samual Swain Stewart Mandolins?

    Hi, Scott

Well, it's certainly Chicago-made, & I'd be leaning toward Harmony as the maker..though Regal or Kay are also a possibility ( Regal the more likely of the two ).

    Can you tell us what...

Also, take a look at photos 5 & 6..it's definately going to need a neck re-set.

Re: Gibson A-40 revisited - what's it worth?

    Grimax,

Yep, it's certainly lost any appeal to a collector, but for $300 I could see it being of interest to a touring musician who wants a good sounding Gibson mandolin that they can take on the...

Re: What do you think about this Gibson?

    Hey, John.

Yeah, particularly in photo #7, the action looks pretty high, & there is certainly no "room to move" with the bridge that's on it..I guess you'd be factoring in the possible need for a...

Re: The Gibson Mandolin Banjo and Eukele

    Hi,

The ukulele is a Gibson Uke-1, which was the bottom of the range ( there was also a Uke-2 & Uke-3 ).

    Re: Mandolin-Banjo, help identifying?

    Musicfood,

Nope, definately not a "mandolele" (more commonly referred to as a "Banjo-uke"). It's a generic British-made Banjo Mandolin, probably mid 20's to mid 30's.

    They were built by the...

    I, too, find the...
