Update - trip to local music store brought some interesting results. The owner, who plays and says he own a few old mandolins, thought it might be earlier (1900-1910) and doesn't look like anything...
Thanks, bratsche... I'd make a new bridge before I messed the the original... When I stopped in at the local 'well established' music store to pick up lighter strings, the owner made a point of...
Update... the popsicle stick intonation put the bridge more where it's supposed to be - just over the 'hump'...billl
Good Morning Folks...Sorry, I went to bed on you ;=) The bridge is 8MM tall at the center, and, I don't have a feeler gauge handy, but the action at the nut is way less than 1MM. A 'medium' Fender...
Here come some profiles. Unless I'm doing the 12th fret test incorrectly... which is a distinct possibility, the measured octave sound is achieved with nut to fret of 6 7/16 and a fret to bridge of...
I will give you a profile...Bill
Thanks to all for your comments ! And yes. It is special to me. Initially, I did not physically measure the string length, I mounted the top 'E' string and the bottom 'G', and with a digital tuner...
I found the bridge stuck on the other side of the 'hump' before I 'free'd' it. but when I installed the first 'outer' strings, it's present location is where the 12th fret 'put' it... I guess I could...

Hey Jim... Dad's old mandolin looks much better now, with not much effort. I tried some FW74's but, without good callouses it was impossible to seal to a fret. Now trying J62's and it's much...
Thank God, Dad didn't glue the bridge of my Supertone down. All it took was some gentle coaxing from a 'chisel-tip' xacto knife to break it loose. And, yes, I will put it back on the right way, even...
Thanks Jim, I got it off with some gentle coaxing with a 'chisel-tip' xacto blade. It appears that it just melted into the finish. I did very gentle horizontal cleaning of the edges, and then the...
Jim, I also have and old Supertone ref: Dad's old mandolin, and I wish I was so lucky. Due, I expect, to the poor storage of this 85-90 year old instrument, it appears, from the marks on the finish,...
Thanks, Jim, I should have known.... one other thing... it seems that the bridge has 'moved' with the heat of storage, and is presently 'stuck' to the top... when I tune this machine, I may need to...
Thanks, Jim... being that Dad and his Sister both got the same instruments at the same time, Sears is very likely, probably right out of the catalog ;-) Do you think some clear "Old English" would...
Thanks for your advice... but, this instrument's 'old mojo' ran into a serious 'alligator! Since I alcohol rubbed down all the 'mountains', it now looks like it did when Dad was practicing his church...
My Dad obtained this mandolin in his teens (c.1925) and used it practice choir music.
It has been neglected and showed much 'alligator', but, appears to be sound. There are no 'maker' marking on it...
