Anyone know anything about McKinley mandolins made near Mansfield, Ohio?
I looked at a loar 400 with a Cumberland bridge upgrade and instead got a Kentucky km900 with a nice case for not much more.
I found several threads here about the iconic Griffith A5 signEd by Lloyd Loar. One in particular discussed that the front was more red, and the back more yellow. Curiously the Cremona km900 looks...
Thanks. Great picture. There's an entire thread here about the history of that mandolin with photos.
Sober why Saga changed the finish from Cremona (light tobacco burst ) to whatever it's called now? I think the Cremona may be the more historically correct color, I could be wrong.
There's a you tube mando set up video where the only thing done was lowering the bridge by turning the adjuster wheels. Worked for my samick made Galveston sycamore f style. Don't think it's as...
I was researching a Loar 400 with Cumberland upgrade and stumbled upon the Kentucky 900 for not much more and didn't need a bridge upgrade.
Try a Kentucky km900. It's not American made but might be a great bang for the buck upgrade. I like them as much as some W ebbers I've played.
I'd look for the solid top ovation over the lam top celebrity or applause
How do these compare with the Eastman 804 f hole?
Does the serial number indicate what year they were made? Do the tops look any different. I started another thread about the spec change frm red spruce toP to select spruce top. Looks like the...
Darn auto speller, it should read km1000. I'm only 51.
Are these "pacrim kit must be set up issues" as common with Kentuckys? In particular the higher end models like km 900, I'm 1000? They're tauted as handmade in a separate factory by more experienced...
I have an Epiphone mandobird 4, works fine for me. I think they go for around $200.00. Came with a padded gig bag.
I'll rephrase my question. Since the change in the published specs, has anyone noticed any difference, including sonic and visual, in the km 900?
Assuming the top is no longer red spruce, what is it now? Sitka, alpine, Italian? When did it change. year or better yet last red spruce serial number. Is red spruce visably distinguishable, ie...
My km900 has a flamed neck and 3d flame on the back. It sounds like a grand Piano. Absolutely awesome.
Is it red spruce ? I've seen ads that say select spruce and others that say red spruce. I think the km1000 is red spruce.
