i couldn't tell from your post if round straps are used. These solve the problem nicely for lightweight instruments, but might not be so good for heavyweights like Stelling banjos and Les Pauls.

An outstanding tutorial on woods.
Actually, isn't Ray Fleck the British Telecaster picker who was in Ricky Skaggs' early country band in the 1980's? i wonder if our British Isle friends have a...
Wish i could speak for a Wood, but i can say a little about Stanley.
Mine is a year old A (pics on the Stanley social group site) with with a big, open sound that's maturing the more i play it. ...
This what Chris Stanley uses on his mandolins and is the string that i always come back to
Roland makes a micro cube that has lots of effects and can be played on batteries. It's a surprisingly good sounding and versatile amp that records well straight to a sound board. Not designed for...
George, the Eclipse is a great idea and is equally appealing to my eye. Good to hear that Hans may make some more mandolins, as they've earned the praise and respect of many. But one would force...
Yes, a good one indeed. i would really like to buy a real one, but it's not an option for the same reason that motivated the Eastman buyers in the first place. However, donations toward a real...
The Giacomel design is one of those that really appeals to my eyes but not the ears...there's just something about it. Now, i've only played one and it was an underwhelming experience. So i keep on...
Mine came last week and will be back from tweaking in a couple days. It sounds really good both plugged in and unplugged...great string balance. Intonation was surprisingly good and the neck shape...
One had a mid '80's KM 1000 that loved the big triangular pick best, and i recall reading that ROnnie McCoury prefers this brand. The Jazz Mando version is the same but better polished and much...
My favorite local music store was started by a fine guitarist who's now a Fender VP. A year or so ago i emailed him to ask that Fender make the 5 string mini Telecaster like Ricky Skaggs has...
Spruce, as i recall it was red maple cut on the quarter with a preferred density, ordered from his usual vender. The f hole A really gets those ringing highs up to the last fret like i was hoping...
i asked Chris Stanley of those mandolins he's built which type of back, being the only variable, seemed to have that little extra something in the tone. He told me that so far it's been the two...
Well, by the time i stumble onto the right Martin tenor guitar or make up my mind, Stan may have already hit his stride. i hope he'll keep posting pics to keep us updated.
Maybe that's how D'Angelico or Bozo got into multiple bindings to make them wide.
Stanley, there are some really nice appointments in your tenor. First, the narrow D shape is tremendously graceful. And the stain and binding are elegant. As someone who is in the hunt for an...
Well, not having heard a spruce topped one, and only a mahogany top many years ago, i wonder if the 17 style would give a more (subjective) pleasing tone with the high range of the tenor guitar.
...
There's some helpful info here. Thanks very much.
Bob, have you been able to compare your O-17T to an O-18T? i'm curious to hear about tone and volume differences.
i haven't been able to pin down this date, so i'm asking here.
What year did Martin stop using hide glue?
bonus question: When did Gibson make the switch?
Thanks.....dan
Well, i wonder how much the wood would insulate and interfere with magnetism. However, x-rays would do the job nicely. However i'm trying to get educated as to what vintage, if any to look into...
Thanks for your replies. The history of when truss rods is out there, but i'm looking for confirmation of when or if Martin put the steel T Bars in the tenors guitars also, along with the 6 string...
A vintage dealer told me his 1950 O-18T has no truss rod. i'm surprised to hear Martin didn't start using them in all steel string guitars when the T rod was invented in '34 or so.
Is this so?
John was kind enough to show me the multi sized fret mandolin. It played and sounded fine, and looks great IMHO. My next refret may go this route.
Wow1, lots of beautiful tenors in the links! At the moment i'm most interested in fixed bridges on flat tops. Do you guys prefer tenors listed to, say, a Martin O18T. But that Selma was lovely.

Nice website, oughta keep the old apple going for awhile. Thanks very much for the link, Charley.
