I just started as well, and got an Eastman 304 from the mandolin store. It plays very easy, sounds wonderful and is truly a quality instrument. Someone mentioned a 305, same thing but with f holes....

A wait well worth it, though!

Played it for my 7 year old, she loves the sound. Then I played it for my 1 year old. At first he was laughing and smiling like I've never seen him. Then he seemed to get mad. haha....

Oh and I gotta shout out to The Mandolin Store for the set-up on this thing! The action is soooo low, and no buzzes even with hard strumming. I've heard horror stories about playing mandolin, but...
