I've looked a Mair's book and Horne's "online." I am leaning towards Horne, although Mair's is intriguing. I really have two goals, but one precedes the other. I want to accompany a band as quickly...

Nevermind . . . the tailpiece cover was discovered in the gigbag. Elderly is good . . .
Got it opened up . . . the mando is different from the pictures . . . but that's okay. The crack is fairly long, but well repaired and not visiable from 5+ feet. Needs tuning, but sounds good to my...
I've read a bunch of different threads, and looked at beginning books in my local music store's extremely limited supply, but I'm looking for very specific recommendations, if such a thing exists.

Its here . . . but do I really have to wait 2 to 3 hours before taking it out of the box? Really?
Mandolin is supposed to arrive today . . . waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting.
Knowing my luck Fedex will come during the 10 minutes today when no one will be home . . .
Address issues caused a delay in shipping. They are shipping today . . . will post after I get it.
Is it sick that I look at the pictures three or four times a day?

LOL . . . The Lonestar is an oval hole . . . not a Big Muddy by any means, but I really wanted an F-hole instrument.
I was debating between the Eastman and the kentucky 150 . . . in the end, the look of the Eastman won the wife over to upgrading the whole instrument with the Eastman.
I don't like the slick,...
Good to hear. Well, I hope it will be good to hear!
After three months of learning on a broken Lonestar that the cats smashed . . . a formerly beautiful but poor playing instrument now held together with elmer's and duct tape . . . my first real...
I really want this, but its not time yet . . .
Near as I can tell, every Nugget is "one of a kind . . . " They are all custom, hand made instruments, right?

This one is for sale for $19,500...
Beautiful. Love the pick guard. Its a piece of art.
But I don't know if its $30,000 pretty.
At the price you are looking for, a-style would offer better value. it costs more $$$ to add the scroll work. An f-style of similar price will probably be laminate and much lower craftsmanship...
The MM100sb/e has laminate back and sides . . . generally you'll want to avoid that. Add to that it is an f-style with electronics for less than $400, and I've got to think there are some corners...
More information will be needed.
What is "a reasonable price range?"
What style of music are you looking to play?
Humidity is not a problem in Washington.
Brad Laird has some great free stuff . . . http://www.bradleylaird.com/playthemandolin/beginner/beginner-home.html
Mike Marshall has some free stuff . . ....
My thought are that in about three monthsmI'll be in the market for a used Kentucky 150.
I would recommend not allowing your cat to lay on top of your mandolin . . .
I will say this . . . if Thile's lyrics are even halfway autobiographical, he's a misogynistic egomaniac rivaling John Mayer. His views of women are pathetic.
But catchy!
it has a solid top, but the back and sides are most likely laminate. The kentucky would be an upgrade as an all solid instrument. Based on the image, it also doesn't appear to have an adjustable...
Adjust the bridge and nut for playable action. Adjusting the bridge for proper intonation. Manicuring the frets to eliminate buzz. There is probably more, but the point is that most mandolins,...
