Not exclusively mando and guitar but Cahalen Morrison and Eli West are in my listening rotation a lot these days.
Count me in.
Larry would you mind sharing the transcription? That is a great tune.
Ha. Paul I was at that show. I was hopping around like a fool in the back during this song and proceeded to twist my ankle.
Oh and to stay on topic we play The Weight full bluegrass style.
Three nice Punch Brothers videos

I just wanted to chime in to say I am really enjoying this discussion. As a huge fan of Phish and Trey's playing, as well as a mandolin player who is striving to reaching that next level.
The...
That vid was posted by Jim Richter who post on the cafe often. Hopefully he will respond to you. But tab for the basic melody can be found on the mandozine site. I would suggest starting there.

Check out Joy Kills Sorrow. They remind me of Nickel Creek but with a banjo player.
Jonathan,
You might want to check out the Paint Creek Folklore Society. They meet once a month I believe in Rochester.

Play with folks as much as you can. If you are unable to play along to back-up tracks.
John Hartford's Aeroplane record. Not psychedelic but for sure newgrass.
David,
I am surprised there isn't more discussion about this on the forums. Perhaps its too early.
I for one am very excited for this and I plan on attending.
Those that are interested in the Hartford and Compton connection may be excited to see this. I know I am.

I love how neither of them can sit still. Its like the music is emanating from their entire bodies.
I just ran across the announcement of this fest and I thought I'd share. I, for one am super excited for this.

First let me say that I think AlanN is right. It will be down right frustrating to sit down and try to pick out those tunes without any assistance. But it is one of the best things you can do. You...
There are scores of material available for exercises that concentrate on lead playing; scales, arpeggios, FFCP, etc.
Are there any exercises that focus solely on playing rhythm? I am not looking...
Ronnie,
For as much touring as you guys do I have to ask...how many suits do you own?
Thanks.
Check out some John Hartford. In my opinion he represents the bridge between more traditional BG to the newgrass stuff. Any of his later albums with Mike Compton are a great start.
I love the Stomp album and was just wondering what recording projects you have in the works?
Also someone already asked, but any chance of an instructional DVD or book from you in the future?
The version I am siting I downloaded from Mandozine.

I am working on Bluegrass Stomp and I have a question on the correct picking direction for a series of triplet double stops?
Would it be...

About 10 years ago I started in a similar fashion as you learning to play the mandolin while a few friends were learning their respective instruments. We got together and jammed as much as possible...
