Good things happen to those who wait. Even though I do not know you, I congratulate you on a job well done for 19 years. Having this custom instrument will be a nice bonus.

I have the privelage of living here in extreme Northeast TN and have many time been to the Carter Fold (Hiltons VA) as well as to Bristol TN/VA. On the streets of Bristol there is a historic marker...
MAM300 is my dream mandolin. I am a banjo player first and foremost and my main banjo is a Morgan Monroe. Morgans tend to get slammed by "instrument snobs" who unless the instrument has a major...
Welcome Steve:
I started mandolin a year or two ago myself and this year started learning guitar. this in addition to playing banjo, autoharp and mt. dulcimer. Mandolins are quirky fun little...
I believe it is the same thing-banjo pickers and guitarist generally call it vamping(least all the ones I know do). You play the chord then lift up (but still keep your fingers on the strings) it...
I like bone myself-not real particular to which kind, just as long as it is real bone. Pearl looks great, but so does bone when it is polished up nice and it is cheap and plentiful.
I will say this that the tailpiece (with its cover) are worth about $60 by themselves. Wish I could find something so nice at the dump.
When you say "chop" are you talking about what a lot of us call "vamping" or is it something else altogether?
There is/was a guy on ebay that sold like 10 pieces of bone in the size you describe for around $10 plus $3 for shipping. Haven't been on ebay in a while so I don't know if he is still there or not.
I have never run into this before, but suspect the answer will be something simple-like a bad ground or bad switch. You state you replaced the unit and still the same problem. That is why I am...
Also coming to this party late, but it also looks simular to my SS STewart (see the avatar). Right down to the plate covering the tuners on the back of the peghear. If your friend gets it and puts...
The one thing I am finding interesting is that no one REALLY mentioned WHY the guitar took off so well down here in the SE USA (and in other rural areas 75-100 years ago. That reason was catalog...
I love the fact that the wood all seems to be air dried and not kiln dried. So lets see he cut the tree down, then it got air dried as the truck hauled the lumber to the saw mill. After cutting the...
Coffeecup-
Welding tip cleaners come in a small think 1" wide by about 2" long metal case. They are mounted inside on a bar. The smallest of these is useless as a nut file. But the larger ones...
Another option-visit online store in europe OR your local music shop and pick up an entry level beginners dvd. Also go to open slow jams and such and gain experience and talk to players about...
I personally like the A styling over the "F" models and also like the oval soundhole as oppossed to the "F's" that some A styles have in them. I guess I will just have to stumble into an old Model...
Slow Jams are for all levels of players. Jams are usually for someone who already plays an instrument and can improvise!
I would second Vintage music in Dahlonega, Ga as having some nice instruments along with decent staff. If you want to go custom-Get a Ratliff from Audey Ratliff up here in Church Hill TN

I am always amazed that most people don't even attempt to do a set up themselves. On an entry level instrument you have little to lose. On a more expensive instrument-the setup should be right from...
Next time you are around Pigeon Forge, venture UP 66 a little ways to another HUGE music store and have a gander at all they have to offer. Can't miss it, it is on the southbound side of 66 just...
L R Baggs makes internal mandolin pickups. I know Indigo Girls use it on their old "A". They probably have a preamp on the belt and then just unplug one instrument and plug the next one in to the...
Capt E:
I know that the A was/has been made for a LONG time. Most of the ones I see pros playing don't even have "gibson" or "The Gibson" (as was seen on later model instruments) on the...
Of recent when I am seeing concert footage and the mandolin player is not playing a "F" model, they ARE ALWAYS playing a Gibson A. and usually either black or dark brown paddlehead, which makes them...
It is my understanding that the ebay seller makes these labels, shall I say slightly different than original, for a purpose-He could make them identical to original, and since you can't get the...
