Well I've never "slashed" a pick in my life, slashed "with" one on occasion, scored one with a knife most certainly. And its been quite a while since I've been thrown out for having bad tone because...
I cut cross hatched scores on both sides of my picks with a knife. I also wash the picks every so often.
Will Kimble in Cincinnati did a great setup on mine a while back. I dont know if he's still taking in that kind of work but he's definitely worth a call.
