  10. Re: anyone own one of the carbon fiber Mix A mandos?

The neck on my Mix F is very comfortable and easy to get around on.
The back is lively as noted by John Flynn.
Lack of Truss Rod not an issue.

Still - my only quibble is non-radiused fret...

  14. Re: anyone own one of the carbon fiber Mix A mandos?

I own a Mix F5 which I purchased via the Cafe Classifieds from Will Kimble.

It's a great mandolin that gets more use by me at live gigs as of late than my go-to Lawrence Smart F5.

    It has...

Re: How Many of You Have Got To Play A Loar?

"That projection is one of the things that separates traditional from modern mandolins IMHO."

In my un-edumacated opinion this might be because the wood in these instruments is 90+ years old - not...

Re: How Many of You Have Got To Play A Loar?

    I've played several.

On occasion I play bass for a pal of mine: Bob Blanchard (a fantastic mando picker and first chair bassist in the Oakland, CA Symphony Orchestra.)

It also brings a smile to...

Re: Anybody seen Skaggs, Cooder, and White?

I actually thought that in many ways the performance was great - not $75 great, but very entertaining with tons of good songs:

Here's a vid I capped of the great Traditional Tune, "Cold Jordan," from the show.

Re: Are there any different looking mandolins?
