    Re: Tony Williamson Lloyd Loar

Tony usually brings his collection of Loars to Merlefest. So cool to see and hear so many all in one place, and get the history to boot.
  2. Re: triple neck, played by John Paul Jones

Thanks for this. I saw them in Phoenix on this tour. I don't remember the instruments, but I do remember how awesome the acoustic set was.

Re: Punch Brothers in Troy NY!

We've got tickets for the show in Durham this Thursday. Saw them a few year ago, and was amazed.

Re: Don Julin & Billy Strings parting ways

I loved their set at Wide Open Bluegrass this year. Very happy to know I'll get to see them one more time at Merlefest!

    Re: motorcycle ride with mandolin

I have a Martin Backpacker for those trips. Strapped it on back and did a 4500 mile camping tour last summer. Not the instrument for festivals, but great around the campfire. :)

Re: Jams near Chapel Hill, NC....

No, ours are almost always at private homes. There is, or use to be, a big one at the Nightlight on Rosemary. Looks like you've already got plugged in to ours, look forward to seeing you!

    Re: Portable recorders

The sound quality from a zoom is surprisingly good. We record our jams with one with good success. I wouldn't use one for serious recording, but I do have a friend that made some demo tracks with...

    Re: Knee Deep-Great Mando

A fun song indeed. I'm just looking though the album cover and don't see a credit for the mandolin (nice picture of one though). Anyone know who the player is?

Re: How is your Eastman holding up?

My 515 is holding up great after about 3 years of daily play. The fabric on the case is starting to come loose at a seam, but then it has seen more than it's share of airplane rides...

    Re: Greetings from sunny Malaysia!

Welcome, Empire! I will be in KL on 27,28 Oct, for my day job. No where near a professional, but I do have my mando with me, and always fun to meet another player. Maybe I can hear you play?

  24. Re: Looking for a gig bag for Octave mandolin?

If you don't find what you're looking for, and want to go custom, try Mooradian (www.mooradian.com). They made a very nice gig bag for my Martin, and it wasn't too expensive. Has held up very well...
