Glad to see we have a mini mandolin hotbed in Michigan :mandosmiley:

Welcome fellow 'The Loar' owner ;)
Craig
Welcome aboard and congratulations! I have a similar experience, having played guitar for many many years but never truly mastering it. I fell in love with the mandolin last fall and picked mine up...
Welcome aboard. I have a 520 and just put a set of J74's on it. I would echo what azflyman said and recommend trying a variety of picks.
"Here, hold my beer"
You can also take the ferry over to Ambergris I think. The little 4 or 8 seater planes to the cayes are pulse pounding!
Makes the kamikazees taste that much better though ;)
Thanks for this thread and to everyone for the responses. I'm anxious to check all of these suggestions out.
I would wait and play it, you may be happy with it the way it is. I just bought a 'The Loar' 520 around New Years and I think it sounds great. The hardware seems to be pretty good quality.
Well that's what happens when you are at work and CAN'T play (without serious complaints anyway) but are still thinking about it.
Oh yeah, my first and only (so far) is a keeper. Nearly a month...
I just wanted to thank Rob for his excellent book. Very generous of him. Thanks for passing along the mando love Rob!
Now that's an eclectic mix. When I get to work I have to switch over to mellower stuff. Bach, Vivaldi, Paul Odette, the Benedictine Monks, Loreena McKennitt.
So I was driving in to work this morning, pretty excited that the weekend is upon us, and it occurred to me that this is what my playlist included (hour commute) :
- (rosary)
- Mumford and Sons...
Happy Birthday Dan.
Thanks Eddie. That's a good suggestion - hadn't thought of that.
Thanks for the info guys. I will have to check out the archive and look forward to that book. As for Elderly... I can hear my wallet whimper in fear when I park in the lot ;)
I had a question in mind, similar to the one that Jordan asked yesterday - and hope that it doesn't generate as much heat ;).
I have seen lots of discussion of, and appreciation for, the 'vintage'...
Hi and welcome from a newbie!
Congrats on the new toy! Instruments with "character" are great. Great being so close to a place like Elderly. If / when I advance enough to upgrade, I know I can go there and sit down and try out...
Thanks Lee. I sent you a PM response. Hopefully some time down the road I will have at least some basic skills and try to participate :)
Haha thanks guys! Yeah I can feel the MAS settling into my bones already. :mandosmiley:
My 1st one!
'The Loar' 520 VS
Welcome aboard! I'm brand new too and in the area. I would recommend the trip to Elderly when you have time. It's a great place. It won't help your MAS haha, but there's also great accessories. And...
Well, you don't have to play it at speed if you want to practice picking skills. I am brand spanking new as well. I've been playing around with the old jig 'The Irish Washerwoman' to try to unlearn...
Hi, I've been snooping around here a bit and decided to register after the Holidays. I have played (I use that term loosely) guitar for several years and stumbled across a video of Chris Thile...
