Must be a sign I'm not playing my F-style enough.

Some companies that aren't worried are probably the overseas ones. Gilchrist, Duff, Northfield etc.
The one and only Loar I've ever played is John Reischman's Loar on a couple occasions. The first time was in his living room, and I got to play it for an hour or so. He played my humble KM-1000 for...
Ok, so I clickbaited you. It's still an F5 and a darn nice one at that! I'll have to take some photos of my F5 mandolin with it I think! This was my dream camera back in college when I did film...
This is for sale locally on Facebook. A Degas mandolin signed by Bill Monroe. No asking price on it yet.

Very very cool! I can only hope to just see one of these one day. Congrats brother!
There's usually some nice stock at Myhre's Music in Edmonton too. I'm in moderately rural Alberta and that's my main go to place. Where you living? NWT?
I've done the steel wool and vinegar technique. It worked fairly well, but I used it on old barnwood cut ends. So I never really monitored the finish after I sold it. I made one batch with rusted...
My KM1000 has sounded better than most new models up to about $3000 that I've played. Better than a Dave Harvey Fern too (maybe setup problems), but not a Harvey Sam Bush or F5G. I'm looking to...
About $45.
It's alive!

This qualifies as other equipment right?
I picked up this full size violin at a Value Village yesterday for $30. I usually check out any fiddle that I find at antique shops or other such places,...
The photos and video on his facebook are awesome! I'm not sure how to link them here, but he's still on his game!
I play my guitars a lot more than my mandolin. There's just more need for guitar in my social circles and commitments. I'm even a bass player in a touring band. But I still find the mandolin to be...
Ah, there she is!
Well don't leave us hanging. Is it finished?
How does the mandolin in question sound? I imagine quite good. I think there's a similar discussion about this in the Red Diamond thread in General Topics right now, but I've always wondered if you...
Amen to that! The Halsey '23 model haunts me. He offered to build me one, but I didn't have the dough.
I got a chance to play a newer Gibson F9, F5G and F5 Fern today. Loved the neck on the F5G! Nice and thick! I preferred the tone too to the Fern. Good to know. Just gotta play a Northfield now.
I really love Paul's work these days.
Good to know! Northfield is high on my list of options. Also slightly more affordable than one of my other desire, a older Gibson F5L.
I'm not concerned so much about the width of the fingerboard as much as the "girth" of the neck. My Kentucky is a bit thin for my liking.
I'm soon to be in the market for an upgrade from my Kentucky KM-1000. One of the things I'm wanting is a larger/fatter neck than the Kentucky. I've played a few Collings, a Stanley, a Red Diamond,...
I've always wanted one to frame on my wall. Just sayin....
