Got mine two days ago. Super fast service, strap is ideal.
  2. Re: Pinky fretting accuracy at 7th fret - any tips for improvemen

This is something I've suffered from, and am trying to overcome. I remember a few years ago attending a session in London with Chris Aquavella. Now, he is a class player, but he kept insisting to me...

    Re: Top 5 albums (suggestions)

Some good suggestions. Admittedly I'm quite a fan, but I'd suggest most albums by Simon Mayor. I enjoy that he just mainly plays music, on the Mandolin. Generally no particular type or genre. I enjoy...

    Re: Found my strap

Thank you. In a nice way I'm a proud owner.

I've never seen a strap that fits around that way, hooking in to the oval hole. I think I'd still worry about it coming loose? I had an email from Rod...

    Re: Found my strap

I'll be happy to. I'm not a great player by any means, I play for fun. But having a nice sounding instrument just encourages me to play more. When it hits that sweet spot it is the most beautiful...

    Re: Found my strap

I purchased it through the Classifieds. Need to sell my Flatiron now to cover the cost! Anyway, here's a pic the seller sent me. (Hope it works as I'm posting from the iPad)

    Re: Found my strap

Hi Ivan I have a Shippey that doesn't have that fretboard extension. I've been speaking to Rod via email and he's working on a strap for me. Friendly guy, nice to chat with via email.

    Re: Found my strap

Hi Ivan. Do you have a contact email for Pine Grove? The Contact Us page keeps timing out on me. I like the look of the straps, having no metal to scrape the instrument is a bonus. I only have the...

Re: Which Allen Alexander book do you recommend?

I also have the Mandolin Music for Mediaeval Faires. It has some great tunes in it. Cantiga 119 is one of my favourites. I'm planning to grab a few more books in the next month or so, too. Really...

Re: The benefit of an old mandolin

Yes that's where I got it from. The shop is fairly near, just two hours by train. I hope to get many years from it. Thanks

Re: The benefit of an old mandolin

The label inside says "Gibson master model performer A" and has a serial number 00602030, which means, I think, 6th Feb 2003? Could be wrong, of course. The sound is very different to what I'm used...

Re: The benefit of an old mandolin

Thanks for the feedback here. Eventually I didn't go for the vintage instrument, I wasn't really keen on it. The main advice here was to get out and try the instruments so I took a trip out at the...

The benefit of an old mandolin

I've posted here in the past asking for advice, and once again come asking from those who know more than I.

After a couple of purchases a few years ago, I ended up with an Eastman MD304, which I...

Never had a problem with ClearTune on the iPhone - as someone previously mentioned, it is rare not to have the phone with me, and the app works very well.

Resource for Medieval and Renaissance Music

Having played around with the Mandolin for a couple of months now, I've discovered a real interest in folk music, particularly early medieval and renaissance stuff.

I've done a few Google searches...
