I'm in Auckland William. But my mandolin is from the Mainland. I got one of Davy Stuarts mandolins last year. He's a builder in Christchurch. Sweet mandolin.
Hi William, welcome to the cafe. Loads of great stuff here. Are you in NZ? Nice to see another Kiwi on board if you are.
I've only had one custom built mandolin - by Davy Stuart.
Excellent experience. Lovely mandolin, and a lovely guy to deal with.
When I get some cash together, I'll be getting on of Davy's Octaves.
Acoustic.
Main, one and only, guitar is a Larrivee L-03R.
Thanks for that. Great song.
The Pogues were my introduction to the mandolin.
Hi there, and Welcome. This is a great site, with a wealth of knowledge.
Thanks again for the great advice everyone.
Linda, thanks for that link. I hadn't thought of looking across the Tasman for any online teachers. Will do that.
Thanks again.
Andrew.
Here's another YouTube find. Not sure who this lady is. Very nice playing.

The number of local mandolin teachers where I am is very limited, and...
Hi All,
I don't usually post much, but Christmas is coming early for me this year, so I just had to jump in.
Just got off the phone from Davy Stuart, and my new mandolin will be here some...
Larrivee L 03R.
Would like to get a Dreadnaught at some stage, but the cash is tied up in a a Davy Stuart mandolin being made at the moment.
Thanks very much for the replys.
Bren, thanks for the link. Its a bit too fast for my sausage fingers. The Tunefinder heads up was good to thanks.
Patrick, thanks for those links, and the name...
Hi there,
Would anyone be able to tell me what these tunes are? And, where I could find the notation or tabs for them.
Really like the first one. But love the whole set.

Excellent stuff! Great to hear the two instruments, and how well they work together. Would love to hear more.
Planxty - The Blacksmith. Andy's playing his Davy Stuart I think. This tune was the first one to broaden my mandolin horizons.

When I was in single figures, the 70's, I remember alot of ABBA, Kenny Rogers, Dean Martin, and Elvis. This was my mothers playlist. Plus sing along party songs. She did teach me to play (strum at...
Hi Scott,
I'd like to change mine from kosigus to Andrew Ferguson.
Great site, thanks very much.
Andrew.
Denis Murphys, 42 Pound Cheque, John Ryans Polka.
The Planxty polka set.
Started with the guitar 25 years ago, and would still see this as my main/first instrument.
Mandolin came about cause I used to jam with a bunch of guys about 15 years ago. We all played the...
Hi there, I don't often post. More of a lurker.
Came across this band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGIe_md3Noc on YouTube and was really impressed.
Don't know if I worked that link correctly....
"I'm a lonesome cowboy" - Like a Rhinestone Cowboy. This was mine from a wee boy. You'd think the title of the song might have given me some clues...
