    Re: RIP Frank Ford

An insanely kind soul and a wealth of knowledge the likes of which we may never see again. RIP, Frank.
  2. Re: New 19” scale Northfield Wavelength Octave/Reichman Demo

    “The mandolinist’s octave mandolin”.

They weren't lying when they said that.
  3. Re: Article: Sometimes the Case Tells the Story

I'm with Scoot Stichenheimer on this one - The Collings case was the most significant case to debut in our (my) lifetime. I know - "it's not a flight case, why's it so expensive?"

    This thing was...

    Re: Love for Ovals

Count me in, I love the oval sound. '24 A Jr and and Collings MT2-O here. Owned plenty others also. The Gibson is loud and cranky and sonorous and a finicky little thing - a true joy, the pinnacle of...

    Re: LMI closing

Maybe that’s part of the reason they are closing. Just to power the CNC for that one board probably cost 4.80.

    Re: an aesthetic question

I've got a '24 AJr Snakehead and I could have sworn it had the old spacing, thats why I asked. I'll have to check it out today.

  12. Re: New Kentucky KM-606 mandolins are in the wild!

Make sure you look at the necks, the Eastman is a bit narrower and more of a 'V', which didn't agree with my hand. The Kentucky I had around the same time (years ago) was a bit wider and more of a...

Re: New Ellis Mandolins at Music Emporium

Theres a Honey-topped Special at Elderly that sounds absolutely unreal. From the quietest tremolo to just flat out stupid loud bluegrass. Just goes to show the best can keep getting better.

    Re: Eastman MDO305 Octave

Just use the blue or (preferably) the orange mandola strings.

Re: Nut Width Preference and why

I have a 1/16, a 1/8 and (2) 3/16. The only one I can tell I’m playing is the 1/16th (‘24 AJr). I get hand fatigue quicker with that one, but it’s not terrible. One of the 3/16th is a Collings MTO...

    Re: Peter Ostroushko

This guy never ceases to amaze me, as far as I'm concerned he has one of the best picking hands out there and also never really got the attention he deserved.

    Appreciate you posting this, thank...

Agree with everything except the JIT portion. In the electronics world, where I work, it’s the norm. From million dollar medical machines to planes to cars to televisions, it’s been that way for...

    Re: Ellis F5 Special

I’m pretty sure you can say the word ‘ear’ on the cafe.

Gorgeous mandolin, too, and they sound and play better than they look.
  24. Re: Eastman fiberglass cases still available?

I have my 23 A-Jr in an Eastman case (F-style case) and it fits nicely. I can get pictures when I get home tomorrow if you want.
