I had a similar case w/ the same problem a few years ago. I was fortunate to find a local shoemaker who did a great job
fixing it. Don't know how many of these old craftsman are still around, but...
Ivan,, I'd not use cork as I've seen damage to the finish
when cork on used on armrest clamps. Excessive pressure
is also a culprit. I use the finished side of thin dearskin now.

I agree with the good sounding,well set up,& easy playing ,,but I believe that the beauty of the wood , and the instrument itself have a lot to do with the desire to posess a particular mandolin. ...
