Holy Moly - I was wondering what to expect when i saw a thread titled "Beck's New Album".

Probably some obscure mandolin playing 'Beck' i have not heard of yet? ...
Surely that should read 'leading to a private outcry off of and away from public spaces and state properties, and the organizing of a proposed mob, filing for the correct permits for public gathering...
Now, I like whats your talking about there
(and in that other T.M. thread too)
I keep two mandolins in the studio - one bowlback and my poor battered Hathway - there's more room than i got at home [though i do keep a cumbus-mando at home in case of emergencies].
The studio...
'Old Friend, Old Chevy, Old mandolin'
I can't help but think 'that's a great name for an album'
I was shuffling around their site last night and i did enjoy their music - strangely, again, i prefer the live sound to the polish of the album recordings.
(There was a moment of confusion when a...
For my part, i can see how someone might think that even though a certain sound is old it still has a lot a life in it yet.
(In fact i think that just a passing glance at the categories and...
That is some nice stuff, i particularly like the second song, and even more so the tune 'Knob Creek' ... I like that the mandolin holds to the classic bluesy-tremolo sound.
Definitely a band that uses bluegrass instrumentation to push beyond the boundaries of traditional bluegrass song forms - a very contemporary sound.
I may be odd in this but i think, on these...
Yes, i had been playing the song with a group for months before i found out, on this forum i think, that it was worked up from Dylan material. That was a bit of a shock, though it made more sense...
Heck-o, i was thinking of the Ray Charles' album when i named the thread but... well, that just made me smile.
(i am also thinking that image would make for one super t-shirt)
Thank you - this certainly seems to fit the bill (no pun intended) and is just what i had in mind for this thread.
I've been giving it a few listens now and both song and performance are good...
Well, if you do get to thinking on it some more i would be very glad to have you contribute some contemporary music that fits your own estimations of Bluegrass.
I'll leave the debates for other...
It certainly is...
but then so is having a suite from Dvorak, but i think both certainly hang under an Americana theme.
I suppose the choice of the soundtrack from Paul Schrader's 'Mishima'...
We all know that Bluegrass has, from its inception, supported a progressive and nurturing attitude for new talent, and taking that as my start point, I want to ask people here to suggest or nominate...
They had me at Phillip Glass 'Mishima' suite... one of my favourite soundtracks from Mr. Glass, it will be interesting to see what they can do with it.
I'm a chiming in to add my tuppence...
It seems that this is another instance of one of those perennial debates that occasionally open up here on the cafe boards and (i may be wrong on this) one...
'Cove' - nice, have'nt seen that word used in quite some time... outside of it's other maritime context that is.
What sorry news.
I can honestly say that i am shocked and saddened.
I only knew Mr. McGann from his contributions here, but, i always found his input to be informed, witty, and very generous....
Thile is not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!
Sorry could not resist... but I'll add i have to agree with Mr. Thile on this I will always prefer to see an instrument being played rather than...
It would be interesting to know if it is a result of digital recording, though, i think that digital recording would probably make it easier for those folks who know such things to edit out the click...
I have heard other players with audible clicks that worked wonderfully as a percussive device, if i'm remembering rightly then it may have been Luke Plumb (if not heaven only knows) and the click...
That's more or less my own take on things too, i just don't see how simply because you heard or listened to some music or were aware of some musician that automatically leads to being influenced by...
Thank you for posting that, i do enjoy a good song history, and for one of my favorite Monroe songs too.
I'll admit i never really found the ambiguity in the song, for me it always read as someone...
I dunno, for my own part i have to admit that i am dubious that Mr. Monroe had any direct or substantial influence on the development of Rock and Roll.
That Elvis covered one of his songs does...
