Humidity change with change of seasons...need a truss adjustment?
Fantastic responses, everyone. Thanks so much.
I will be sure to check out all those luthiers.
To answer some of your questions, yes, lower angle as in more in line with the body.
As I...
Adding humidity to a building system is a tenuous practice in all cases in terms of building health.
Building health is very important for personal health as well.
If you feel you must add...
...building a traditional F with Englemann top and low neck angle?
I know Sim Daley used to do it well.
Is this as good as the Fishman Loudbox?
MSM very well could help. Sulfur is perhaps the main beneficial ingredient in MSM. Sulfur is well known outside of the medical field for its pain-relieving properties, along with other healthful,...
Can you email that file Jim? I'll pm you my email if you want.
I'm thinking you're speaking of single note triplets, right?
I'm asking about rhythm strumming...correct me if I'm reading you wrong!
If I'm going to put a triplet strum on the 4 beat going into the one...
Do you guys begin the triplet on a down beat, and hit the next measure one beat on an up?
That's what I've always done....
You know I'm not really getting tons of feedback... I'm just going for the best sound I can get while reducing chances of unwanted noise. Sometimes sound guys are awesome, and other times they don't...
Seems like in Pro Tools I can cut off around 10-12k and not hurt sound much. Don't know if that will benefit me much. Most troubles come from sound guys rolling off too much lows and leaving lots...
Are overtones very important in live sound? (not thinking of quiet solo shows)
Seems like they would be a risky frequency to pursue (feedback-wise), without as much benefit to the listener
in the same vein... what about everything above 3500 (highest G on E string)? (or whatever note you don't typically play higher than)
if the lowest open G note is 392 Hz
can you tell a sound guy to roll off everything below 392...
or will that somehow harm low undertones?
Is it a good idea to keep the gain knob lower to limit feedback? Then maybe boost the level in the fader (or monitor knob) to compensate?
If so, can you take this approach too far?
Do these exist? Did they ever? I thought they did years ago.
Now can't find on any website.
When making an equidistant bridge string spacing... do you focus on outer width of each course staying constant or the space between courses staying constant...or both?
(Or something else?)
Thanks for the responses, everyone.
Top is fairly thin around the edges, but thicker in the center. Arching is medium low. Tone bars are quite tall. I lost virtually nothing in deflection. Top...
Think I made some tone bars that are too weak.
Can I beef them up with glue or varnish, applied directly onto the tone bar?
Wow! That's top shelf work.
I've witnessed several builders be downright shady in their communication as they finish instruments, and I understand they have other things going on in their lives...sometimes unforeseen...
You're right, but definitely carved top, with a more traditional, lower arch.
Going for a warm sound and playability for lower action.
A mandolin with zero - or very low - neck angle and Englemann spruce?
Couple more here...
Hey everyone! Dan delivered my new Voight this weekend. Thought I'd throw up some pics.
Red spruce, James tailpiece, Waverly's, compound radius (five stars on the radius).
How does it...
