I have a 20" Weber (haven't played in ages) that I have the Thomastik on....I just removed a bit of the thread so that what was left was above the nut. I wouldn't want to try it on anything much...

Every time I read the title to this thread I see "How do small hands do the finances". Crap. I have small hands, but luckily they don't cause money problems.
I've still got TI's on the Weber Gallatin octave 20". I put TI 174 medium mandola strings on the octave. They have been on there a while now....I think I had to take a little bit of the thread off...
I've just tried to order the Weber Gallatin A4 oval. I figured the Bitterroot was the same as the Gallatin but with bling....and I like a nice boring (not shiny) looking mandolin (I have an octave...
To get a look at the Girouard (or the others) would be a bit over 5hr drive each way if the traffic cooperates. Bit far for my tastes.
That's my initial choice....I've had a Weber before (and currently with the octave). It's also the cheapest.
I haven't had a mandolin for about 3 years, just a Weber Gallatin octave I haven't played for a while. Dabbled with a parlor banjo last summer, but got the flu and after a few weeks just didn't get...
Poop.......
I'll go ahead and ask again.......anybody know the first tune he played?
Is there any sheet music to what he is playing?
I put these (Thomastik 174) on my 20" Weber Gallatin oval hole. An old post somewhere had said they would work so I tried them......and then bought 2 extra sets when they did. It's been quite a while...
I haven't been playing lately.....but I put on Thomastik mandola 174 mediums. A lot less finger noise....but not as rich/ringing tone. Strings last a long time. This just fit the 20"...
RayT- now that I am back in the UK for good (Harrogate).....I'm looking for a strap for a Weber Gallatin Octave A.....what were the costs with the strap?
Walt Kuhlman? East coast US somewhere I think.
I am currently playing the 20" Weber with Thomastik octave mandola strings.....they just fit although I have to scrape some of the windings off the...
The larger scale.....and sounding better.....I kind of agree with (I have a 20" Weber+Gibson F4 mando). But if you take that literally......why would anybody play a regular mandolin? I may at some...
So far I have been using the Thomastik octave mandola strings on mine (I haven't seen the octave for almost 2 months since it is in our shipment to the UK).....I have a Weber octave 20" that they...
We moved back to N Yorkshire on 16 April.....I decided to ship the octave.... Thank the Gods for beer. We are now in our second month of staying with my wife's parents and I don't have anything to...
Kind of the same here.....now that I have tried Octave I don't think I will go back. Hope to sell my mando when it gets here (N Yorkshire) in a couple of months. Both the mando and octave I shipped...
No real idea on playing my octave with single strings. Although when I still had an electric mandolin I liked how easy it was to only have to finger a single string.....so I would imagine the theory...
From my years in Germany....my favorite local was Licher. Nice boring German beer near Giessen Germany.
On 4+5 string emando's......or/and acoustic octave mandolins?
I just switched out the Pearse strings for some Thomastik flatwound. The Pearse definitely had a richer brighter sound. The Thomastik has a mellow more blues like sound. The Thomastik also have...
I was just on the JustStrings site.....wondering about how to order the Thomastik octave mandola equivalent. The mediums Thomastik 15,21,34,49 I am getting to like more as I use them. The TI's just...
Maybe I'm the only one who checked your link to the Ashbury Octave mandola site.....your instrument has a 518mm scale length. That is 20.3". Almost exactly the same as my Weber 20". The TI 174...
If you notice just below your post, I just put a new set of TI's mediums (174m I think) on my Weber 20". Haven't played much yet with them on. I had Pearce on before that and really liked the bright...
