I got to play it a little at Acoustic Music Camp. It's very nice right out of the box. The fit and finish were excellent. It played very easy and had a ton of sound. It's only bound to get better.
I was there this time last year. The best "Gibsun" I played in the high end room was a (clearly marked) fake. I forget who made it but, as I recall, it was a mid '70s instrument and sounded great.
Sounds like the OP solved his problem but since the the question was about best new bridge available, let me opine. If, like me, the heavy sharpe shoulder of a Gibson style bridge cuts/pushes...
How were the tuners? I was there in the spring and I was surprised at how hard some of these $3K and up (way up) mandos were to tune. Thought I'd need channel locks for some of them. I'll put up...
Get the best mandolin in your price range for which you can hear a positive difference. Make sure all components work well, particularly the tuners. Earlier this year I was at a well known Nashville...
Wimberley was her home base but her mama took her around to other jams too. She was unfailingly polite and never, never precocious (in the negative sense which word is often used). Everybody knew she...
The Gibson style bridges really cut into my hand. When I had mandos with that style bridge, I used a modeler's wood rasp to really break that sharp edge and the sandpaper to polish. To me, that just...
I find that playing mandolin and guitar helps both. I also think it makes me have to think notes instead of fret position.

Bonnie and the Clydes…
Bonnie Sims playing mandolin. A fun mix of Bluegrass, Western Swings and torch songs. This was at a house concert in San Antonio. I was impressed with how they...
I've had the opportunity to play both of these instruments. They are superb examples of the art. Gibsons are scarce in these parts so getting to play a great one was a treat. The Ellis is a little...
I'll bring it to Steve's Monday night. You should bring your Uke. They are very similar in size so they should go well together.
I recently acquired this Mandolinetto from Guitar Tex in San Antonio. It was in sad, unplayed shape when they got it but they worked their magic and put it back pretty close to right. I saw it in a...
If it's not easy it's not really a folksong.
The appropriate place to put the armrest, it's where your arm crosses the bout. You want to center it so that your arm crosses through the middle of it, that's where it will be the most comfortable....
I've seldom been sentimental about things. I just have found for my satisfaction I need to focus on a limited number of instruments.
I traded off my mandola today. It played beautifully and sounded great but I just never got into it. I made an effort over this holidays to play it more but it just seem like work. I hate the thought...
I shop slowly. When I get serious, I do a lot A/B comparisons, tunes, phrases, chords, etc, etc. First just by myself and then I get somebody to play for me. Always compare to my primary instrument....
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
With an illness that would have made most helpless, Joe continued to make a difference. He taught. He wrote. He...
LOL. Yes, thanks clarifying.
I have a nice wooden bodied, metal hex unit made by Durl Jones. You can find him on Facebook.
I also use the a AA battery powered screwdriver. With 4 AAs it's geared way down to get useable...
Followed the front page note on Gibson 120th Anniversary mandolins to the Mandolin Store. I guess they got a special dispensation to show these as they typically say they can't show Gibsons in stock....
Seems to me the first step in getting a bassy mandolin is to play with more base. My Bighorn has a pretty good low end but I use a lot of alternate chords and inversions to keep me on the G-D-A...
Alan has a new album out with Billy Bright. "Bright Munde" is the two of them banging out some delightful mando/banjo tunes.
Steve is a great teacher. It was tough missing out this year but I needed to catch up on guitar. He's very patient and very good at dealing with the usual varying level of skill in a typical class. ...
