Nice scroll. And points.
Four finger closed position scales really helped me out a lot.
I made a pick out of Ipe. I found out that my fingers cross at the pick and I had to shave this shape into the pick to be comfortable. Ipe is slippery so I had to texture it.
It's about 1\8" thick...
Dang it, I thought I was happy with what I got.
Now I'm going to have to go try 4 or 5 different other picks and go through my exotic wood scraps looking for something pick sized to experiment with....
I agree wholeheartedly and have noticed this same effect with cars, tools, sprots gear, women,...
Chop strum chop chop strum chop has a nice beat.
I wasn't thinking bluegrass before. I play melodies in double time with trills for these but that is not very bluegrassy.
ONE two three ONE two three
or
ONE two n three ONE two n three
Or more "n" upstrokes between.

Being a guitar player and using different picks for different styles and sounds has left me with a lot of different picks. The one I am most comfortable with at this time is a blue Dunlop. It used to...
It's a really nice Dmin9(no7) now, 7300, with an alternate 7370 to get the high note in there. I played a Dm2 on a piano and it really should be a Dm9 with no7, it sounds better that way. I still...
I strongly dislike (hate is such a strong word) the four finger G. I can play it fine but it's not a good chord to easily switch to and from and takes your pinky away from using for access notes....
I've actually learned a lot from this thread. I probably should have learned this all before. Too much time playing without really knowing much about what I was playing. Thanks.
Is Dm(add9) the same as Dm(add2)? That is one of the names the chord designer from the link in the first post gives it. Having four notes of a five note chord can be ambiguous.
I have never set out...
Wow! I thought since I needed a D bass and there was that C bass, so I just moved it up. 7300 is Fmaj7no5/D and has an eerily melodic sound that fits right in. I think I'll stick with that one.
I...
The bassward note? The bassiest note? The most bassish note? Yep, it's tough.
Dm9 at 5350. That may be it and why the 5300 sounded more right to me than the 2330.
BTW, I'm amazed such an obscure old song is even on youtube.
The chord finder from the home page on this site does not give you inversions. As a long time guitar player I have never even thought about this inversion concept before. We often play parts of...
Thanks Jim, John.
The slash A chord doesn't work as well in this song. It has a fuller happier sound, sure, but the song uses the more suspenseful sound of the C bass chord better. I'm trying to...
I'll try that out.
I still don't know how to speak the name of these chords. Like "A root F major seven" or "F major seven on C" or something.
I was trying to figure out the chords to a song in Gmaj that has a chord at the end of a verse that shifts the key. It was really hard but I finally figured out the notes, 5300.
I had no idea what...
Just a general answer for you. I've been fighting a similar battle.
A lot of the chords in jazzy tunes are just for walking from one chord to another that you can pause over or play single melodic...
This one speaks to me for some reason.

I've played guitar for, I can't count, more than thirty years. Also electric bass, ukelele, dulcimer, dobro, keyboards, drums, etc. I tried banjo once but my girlfriend took it away (it was hers...
Not sure if this is advice as much as an observation.
I have played around with a 12 bar stomp in G (with C and then D>C, in case you don't know what a 12 bar is you can figure it out) that from the...
Many here are at least a little jealous. Congrats and happy picking.
New strings are louder and have more overtones. Mandolin playing tends to be percussive for a lot of us and guitar playing more melodic. If that is your style then you will notice the strings...
