  1. Re: Grumpy Coyote's Key/Chord 'n Jam/Songwriting Cheat Sheets...

Fanmando, those lines indicate bar chords, not capos. Lay your first finger all the way across the strings as indicated ... sometimes 1st through 5th strings or 1st through 6th strings.

Re: My Siminoff H-5 Mandola Kit

I love that. I had just recently started thinking about a Siminoff kit. Your mandola looks so good, that it's convinced me to order a kit from Roger.

Re: Post an "Artsy" Picture Your Mando!

Hey Dave - That is one of my favorite mandolin photos ever. Is that your red mandolin in the shot?

    Re: "Tight-playing" mandolin

This might be completely off track, but how does the string length from bridge to nut compare to your other mandolins? You're probably already aware that different lengths necks/strings result in...

Hey Steven, what's your starting place? Do you have a video posted on YouTube yet? If yes, then ...

    1. On the YouTube site, click on the "Share" button beneath the video.

Re: post a video of yourself

My forum/YouTube debut, haha. I need to get out to the Fiddler's Green jams and find some other folks to play with.

    passing down your mandolin

I'm interested to hear from others who have made plans or are thinking about passing down their mandolin to an heir. Have you put something in your will? Thinking about it? Prefer to give it away...

    Re: Slaughtering Sacred Cows

I'm going to hush up and just wait to read more from Andrew DeMarco. Appears to me he's got a good understanding of this stuff. Please post more as you come across it, Andrew.

    Re: Slaughtering Sacred Cows

I've read all of Malcolm Gladwell's books (currently a total of four) and I recommend them. I forget if it's his theory or someone else's, but he mentions 10,000 hours of quality practice/experience...

    How long does it take?

As we all know, there is no solid answer to your concern. There are too many variables involved to predict when a player will become competent. Besides, we all have...
  12. Re: What/Where are the "Best" Physical Music Stores for Buying Ma

Digging up this thread one more time. This will do a better job explaining what I tried to express in an earlier post. This is from Fiddler's Green. Recorded right in front of the cash register,...
  13. Re: What/Where are the "Best" Physical Music Stores for Buying Ma

Here's another vote for Fiddler's Green. They have the best selection of mandolins my eyes have ever seen. Throwing in acoustic guitars, fiddles, banjos, wooden flutes, etc. - it's a great place to...

Love the Mike Marshall video! Thank you for posting that.

He said that the knuckle of the left hand should touch the neck. To qualify, he said this within the context of describing the finger...

Re: chord, scale and double stop charts?

I assume that the diminished chord on the 7 is simply not common enough to take up the required space on the chart. A diminished chord is comprised solely of minor thirds and its tense sound doesn't...

What are your opinions on resting the neck of the mandolin on your left forefinger as you play?

Re: Knowing the chord behind the melody notes

Don't make this harder than it is. My suggestion is to write down the chord changes or buy a book that lists the chords changes on top of the melody. There are a lot of music books out there that...

    Re: Bullet Time

I respectfully disagree. I've been able to see bullets in flight and I'm an amateur shooter. I don't think it has anything to do with marksmanship or shooting skills.

    1. My buddy has a small...
