Hey Jim, I'll be there. I met you at Shaun's place several years ago, and I think at the Richmond jam one time. I'll look forward to catching up. Congrats on the room!

We're thinking about moving there for the summer. What's the word on bluegrass and oldtime in Bozeman? Are there jams to go to, shows to see? What's the town like in general ?
Thanks to all of you for the helpful replies. Think I'm gonna check out Anderson as I'm pretty from from the $25K minimum with Heritage.
I've run into a problem and I'm looking for suggestions. I recently got what is for me and expensive instrument (An Ellis A5). I called up my renters insurance to make sure it was covered, and...
I'll be there for the weekend. I'm psyched as I've been in Va for 7 years but never made it until this year. Should be a blast.
I had a Pom A2 that was just as you described. Very tubby, boomy bass strings. I liked it alot and sold it to fund the Ellis. The Pom also had really nice playability and workmanship. Don's great to...
I just found out my band, the Rivanna River Chiggers is opening for them on April 11th here in Charlottesville. We're nervous, but honored and excited. Being a young band (<1 year) formed from a jam,...
Shaun,
I'm sorry to hear about that. Next time, take a road trip up here to C-ville for some old-time jamming and visit John Hamlett. I don't think you could find anyone much better...
Hope the...
....any suggestions on what to do? Any jams or shops I should visit? Of course, I'll be bringing my mando.
Thanks,
Jeff
Nope, not really. I've found that a heavier, rounded pick, such as the Dawg or, better, a Wegen 150 helps with tremelo. Also, lighter strings will tend to flex more and make tremelo more difficult. I...
WE ARE GWAR! WE'LL EAT YOUR CAR! GWAR, GWAR, GWAR!
Captain - I actually saw the police in Athens, GA shutdown a GWAR show for violating public decency standards. Athens-Clarke County was...
Thanks very much to everyone. I appreciate the advice, and I'll let you know how it goes. Feel free to offer anything more....if we get it down I'll post a sound clip.
Yep, I did ask that. Didn't mean to come across as unappreciative; #I was just trying to clarify what I'm tryin to figure out. I realized that the tune was on electric guitar, and I knew I couldn't...
I'm playing a mandolin, non-electric oval hole. So, the suggestion of a single coil is interesting, but not too helpful....
So I'm in this cover band that wants to do "Allison" by Elvis Costello, from the My Aim is True record. How do you get that tone that the fills have - kind of bluesy jazzy thing? Pentatonic and blues...
OK, so I've read the extensive threads on amplification and gathered that mini-mics smoke stick on or bridge pickups. But, I'm playing an oval A with an acoustic rock/blues type band and see no way...
Just today I jammed with some folks in a rock and roll kind of way....very new for me. Some tunes:
California Stars - Billy Brag & Wilco
Crazy Love - Van Morrison
I Guess That's Why They Call it...
Hey Shaun,
Round C-ville way there are many "odd" oldtime tunes I've been working on (meaning i don't meet alot of folks outside the area that play them, but then again, I don't go too far...) and...
I can't wait to get ahold of this. I've been waiting to hear Master of Bluegrass for a LONG time (never found it anywhere).
Hey Sgarrity - I'm in Charlottesville, but my mother-in-law's in VA...
If it weren't for these fine folks I'd never have started playing with people. They are wonderfully helpful to beginning jammers. This is a GREAT jam and really more fun than you can shake a stick...
Last one.
Mas.
Hopefully this one will come through better...
I didn't mean to make this a cliff hanger. I've been enjoying my new mando so much I haven't had time to post the final pics. I see what I can do about a sound clip as well.
Much thanks to Mr....
