Going to pick up either the Northfield or Hercules stand for my mando. Curious how they compare in terms of stability?

Just got one of these. Definitely recommend; really nicely made and very comfortable.
The Bibey probably wasn't in the high end room...it's $6k, a 2004. Looks cool. The Duff Scout is a one-off with F5G type appointments (top binding only).
Did you happen to play the Gibson Alan Bibey and the Duff Scout? Been eyeing those.
I bought a great A-style from Chris a few years ago. Awesome instrument, and Chris is just a really nice guy. So sorry to hear about this.
Leaving aside variations among individual instruments, are the F5L, Goldfish, and F5G constructed the same (voicing, woods, finish, etc.), and are the differences only cosmetic?
That is, do they...
Goose, did you also happen to play the Gibson F5G? If so, what did you think?
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I agree that the Passernig seems to have some more depth and overtones, but I need to ask Ben how long each one has been in the shop. If the Northfield happens to...
Ben at Fiddler's Green was very nice to make a short comparison clip with the Passernig and the Northfield. Hard to draw as firm a conclusion as I could in person, but instructive, nonetheless.

Nuts, it's been so long since I've been here, I forgot to update. I sold the Altman some time ago when I started playing fiddle. Starting back in with a smaller budget.
I'm getting back into playing some mandolin after a good while hacking through the fiddle wilderness. I'm going to get a new mando, and have narrowed it down to a Northfield F5S, a Pava A-5 Player,...
They're all good, but Up in the Woods is, for me, a true desert island record.
I second Kate's message. Amazing show. Alice Gerrard was incredible (and a revelation for me, as I hadn't listened to her before). Took my breath away.
And, for mando content, Mike Compton...
Can anyone recommend an online rhythm machine or rhythm machine software?
I have a great-looking tan/black two-tone leather F5 bag that was custom made for me by Glenn Cronkhite recently. Very well-made and attractive. I might be interested in selling it, as I'm just not...
Rob, I looked on the Peterson site and didn't see a clip-on attachment for the iPhone.
It's about time for me to start exploring some of Jethro's music. I've been meaning to for awhile, and the FJ article finally kicked me in the butt to take action.
Can someone recommend one or...
Awesome case, and Sam is a great guy. You can get just about any color in the spectrum. To me, much more comfortable and streamlined to carry than a Calton, far better looking, and comparable...
Rob, sorry to go off subject, but I did the Horton in 1993. Greatest trip of my life.
Glassweb, any discussion about price-point? Also, I'd vote shaped case ala Pegasus.
Totally understand your desire for an F. I had an MT2 which was more mando than I needed, but still eventually had to have an F. That said, the MT is a fine instrument. I actually seem to prefer...
I've had the pleasure of playing a fair number of really good mandos, but one that still stands out above the others is a Dude a guy had at Grass Valley last year. Haven't personally heard or played...
Works fine with my F5. Tight to push down at first, but the foam eventually grooves in.
I just heard that Bob Altman is going to build a mandolin for Herschel Sizemore. I guess that Herschel played one and loved it, so as I understand it, he's going to play one that Bob had completed...
So, tomorrow's my 50th (ouch!), and look what my sweet wife painted for me. It has my Altman in it, and the names of as many of my heroes as she could think of. Indeed the mando is an intricate...
