Nice Sunburst !!!!
Bluegrass Super-Group. -I played Marbletown until I wore it out!
I don't know if this mandolin can be dated within a few years, but I'd guess that it was made in the mid-80's, and it is certainly a Japanese manufactured model. #It is also a solid wood top. #

I'd suggest a used Collings as well, however, I was very impressed with the new Breedlove FF. It'd be a good choice too.
It's not a scroll, it's a horn.
I like the Breedlove models. The Cascade in particular is pretty good for Bluegrass.
I you live in, or near Minneapolis, go check out The Podium. (It's near the U of M campus). They always have a...
That is one beautiful instrument. Love the pick-guard, the MOP, and the black tuners. -Please post a few more photos if possible.
Easy answer: Eastman
I agree with Perry, I like the look of the A5 better. -The CF seems to "fit" the A-style body better. I played one a few weeks ago and liked the tone, playability, and thought it looked great.
I played one a few weeks ago. I really liked it. -Great playability that reminded me of the Rigel neck and fretboard.
The tone was beautiful, but I'd describe it more "bell-like" than woody.
Thinking about a BRW...
Clem,
I think the beer is a "Blue Moon". (am I correct?)
Interesting instrument. -What was the selling price?
I also have an MT which I really like. If I was to ever upgrade it would be to a Collings MT-2. You might want to play a few and see if it feels and sounds like it's worth the step up.
I canceled my order for this case 2 weeks ago, and they are still sending me order status information!
With that serial number it is most likely a Japanese manufactured Kentucky. #
I don't know the details of your trade, but sounds like you got a good deal. #The Japanese made Kentuckys are really...
I had the same experience. -Ordered the same case 3 weeks ago, they told me it was in stock and would ship within a few days. A week later they said they are moving into a new warehouse and it would...
Does anyone know if the MF durofoam case is larger, or deeper than the MF $29 case? The both seem to be a good deal. I'm in the same situation trying to find a case for a Japanese era Kentucky 250s.
So that's where the new Flatiron "A" style models are made. Interesting...
huh?
Well, after all that, Greg Boyd now appears to have been correct about Chinese manufactured Flatirons.
It is interesting to now read back on this thread to see how Big Joe handled this issue......
I've been waiting to learn more about these new oval-hole Kentuckys, so I was glad to see your post and your photos. Does the KM 172 have a radiused fretboard? (I believe the new KM 254 does)(?)
Will the Newark and Camden models have a compartment for a concealed fire-arm. Or, maybe a pepper-spray-pouch.(?)
Paul,
You seen to be concerned that people are posting "rumors", but you don't seem hesitate in your post above to accuse Greg of "lying". #Maybe you should consider your own statements before you...
I played one of the new Breedloves 2 weeks ago, and I was really impressed, and surprised with the tone, volume, and chop.
The one I played was just like cripin's photo above. -Very impressive.
