    Re: Meet my mando family

    Well done!
What you've got there is a mandolin family fun pack. I'm jealous.

Be sure to post up a link once you've completed your recordings. I'm very interested in hearing them in concert...
  2. Re: I need the best chord chart ever, like all the up the neck ch

FWIW I've got a ton of those images saved in a folder on my machine at home. Google image search is one of the best things that ever happened for self taught musicians (in my opinion). I use the...

Re: All you mando pickers can make fun of me now

That's a nice little bluegrass lollipop you have there. Congrats!

I also played around with one for a while ...until the fella who had loaned it to me heard the sounds I was making with it...

    Re: GDAE Baritone Ukulele

I stand corrected! I guess I should do research before opening my big mouth …but that would be out of character.

For what its worth, the universe is punishing me for opening my big...

    Re: GDAE Baritone Ukulele

Those strings are for a Concert ukulele and are intended to be tuned CGDA like a Mandola, not GDAE like a mandolin. That's probably the root of your issues.
You can use high tension guitar strings...

Re: Do you take your mandolin out of the house?

I don't own a single instrument that hasn't left the house more than once. Having said that, I admit that I have my favorites, depending on setting.

If I'll be surrounded by folks sloshing...

Re: MAS Already from a newbie

Happened to me too. I've been playing (or trying to) for less than two years and I have 5 of them now.

Re: Buying Above Your Playing Ability?

That pretty much sums it up for me too.

One thing I really like about owning a high quality instrument is that even my mistakes...
  10. Re: after much research and deliberation, here is what i ended up

I played around with a Pava over a year ago and it the sound of it still sticks out in my mind.

Be sure and play any other mandolins you have access to while you're waiting. Once you have the...

Re: Buying Above Your Playing Ability?

Are you sure you're using the right strings?
My little toy sounds pretty good and none of the strings are floppy. Considering how much is invested in it I'm surprised at how good it sounds.

    Re: Sarah Jarosz o TV

I have and don't regret it.

I saw her recent show at the Paramount in Austin along with the Milk Carton Kids. It was a great show and easily worth the price of admission.

There are quite a few videos from Animusic on youtube. All different, all pretty cool.

    Re: Should I get a Fender Mando-Strat?

You might want to ask that question in the electric mandolin section of this forum: LINK
Peruse the threads available in that link and you'll find some good info.

I know for a fact that there are whole threads devoted to banjo players.

    Re: The end of civilization

Accordions often make me think of Merry-go-Rounds and ice cream trucks. To me they sound a little bit like calliopes.

Re: Buying Above Your Playing Ability?

So buy a $100-$200 baritone ukeulele and tune it GDAE with guitar strings. That's how I cured (temporarily at least) my itch for an octave mandolin.

I have a medium sized amount of disposable...

Re: Buying Above Your Playing Ability?

Re: played an Eastman @ Long & Mcquade today.

You mean buy an "A" style mandolin? That's not how BILL did it.
