Which one sounds the best?
Another great week about to happen in Tunbridge, Vermont.
Thanks, I went to their website and they sound great! More music!
Not to worry. The truth is often "dangerous" and your opinion is shared by many.
I built a Stewmac A5 and I have been very happy with it. If you decide to buy one of their kits, you should probably buy the DVD too - the written instructions are somewhat terse.
I have a 9310 mahogany as my back-up mandolin and I love it. It has a very different sound from a regular spruce/maple mandolin, in the same way an all mahogany guitar sounds different from a spruce...
I bought one a while back and love it. The sound/price ratio is excellent. Regarding the tail piece, I had to glue a small piece of leather to where it comes on to the top-the felt that was there...
In no particular order, and some may be out of print:
Lou Martin-Recent Work
Andy Statman-Andy's Ramble
Bill Monroe - Master of Bluegrass
John Reischman-Walk Along John
I finally got around to looking over the September catalogue and was surprised to see that they aren't selling the A-5 kit. It's not on their website, either. Glad I got mine while it was there. ...
It's a great place to start. Family-friendly, not overwhelming. Great music.
I know a bunch of folks going up there tomorrow. Can't get there 'til Thursday, myself. Weather report is good and so is the lineup.
Five variations on The New Rigged Ship, an old Shetland islands fiddle Tune.
Get in touch with Lou Martin. He has sheet music for Old Dangerfield.
True. Mandolin requires much more attention to form. Both hands have to be precise, whereas the guitar is more forgiving. But getting it right on mandolin is joyous.
I got a copy of this album and had the local recording studio transfer it to digital. Absolutely amazing. Can't get "Monroe Rambles On" out of my head. Kicking myself for not discovering this...
The tip that changed everything for me was to take lessons. Very hard for me to make the conceptual shift from guitar to mandolin.
I finished one about a year ago (needed some professional help on the neck) and am very happy with it. I don't think that there has been any recent design change. As others have noted, there will a...
Another good book that deals with his professional life is The Music of Bill Monroe, by Rosenberg and Wolfe. Far more than a discography.
I find that my older instruments are much less sensitive to changes in humidity. Perhaps the wood becomes less absorbent over time?
I put them on my A model kit and have no complaints. They were very stiff at the beginning, but they are fine now.
If you don't want to spring for the finger plane, get a set of scrapers, especially the one with the curves. I successfully used them on my stewmac kit. The finger plane would have been faster, but...
Shortly after finishing my kit mandolin this Spring, it began to develop some neck issues. I decided that it was time to consult with someone who actually knew what they were doing, and was referred...
I do have to say that the pick guard is lame. But I will probably just take it off.
I just bought one as a backup festival instrument andI am very pleased. Nice sound, nice setup, stays in tune, lowprice, what's not to like?
What a great video - thanks!
