Hi Caleb - good review, and it's piqued my interest quite a lot.
As a fellow Eastman 505 player, which saddle variant did you go for? Flat, radiused, Tall boy etc?
I've played several Eastmans (or should that be Eastmen?), including a 305, 315, 505, 515, 605, 615 and a couple of the 8's and 9's.
As Allen pointed out above, they do sound remarkably alike. I...
GuyInCognito, as luck would have it I actually played one of these yesterday!
The look of it caught my attention, which is why I picked it up and gave it a short spin. Sound-wise, it was very...
I have to agree with shortymack here (sorry George!!).
I have an Eastman 505 and it's not thin or trebly in any way - nice bell-like, mellow tone. I compared it to a Kentucky 505 the other week...
David, also make sure you drink plenty of water during the gig. It'll keep your vocal cords lubricated. Steer away from booze as it can make the throat close up a bit. Good luck!
The 505 certainly sounds the sweetest to my ears.
Hi Chip,
I've never gigged with my mando, but I've done hundreds over the years on guitar. Believe me, the same thing's happened to me many a time - even at the age of 17 when I was just a...
Nice sounding Eastman mando, and some nice picking too.
"Since this thread's 18 months old, I'd assume the OP's made some kinda decision by now..."
Whoops! Didn't see that!
Hobgoblin sell the Kentucky KM 160 and 162 for around £300. They're both exactly the same, other than that one is sunburst and the other is honey-amber. A-style, solid top, back and sides, nitro...
Hi folks,
the title says it all. This one is aimed at any UK based players. Does anyone know a really good mando set-up person in West Yorkshire? Not convinced that Hobgoblin are good enough. ...
Many thanks for all your input, looks like I need to find someone locally to give it a tweak - both in terms of bridge fit and bridge position.
thanks
John
Hi folks,
I've had an Eastman 505 for around 10 months. Nice instrument, nicely set-up and easy to play with no buzzes, etc.
However, I do have a couple of questions. One is that although...
Is it a trumpet? Blown in the morning to wake soldiers up, played at night in a big band. Used in fanfairs to proclaim a king, used in military (and other?) funerals?
Another vote here. I have a 505 which I really like, but recently played a 515 which sounded absolutely superb. Enjoy!
Totally agree with G7MOF - it's frustrating to follow a thread that ends up going nowhere.
Regarding your choices, MrRusty, my one and only experience with Savannah left a very sour taste. To...
Hi folks,
at the moment I'm playing an Eastman 505, an A-style mando with radiused fretboard. It's a lovely mando, but I'm kind of starting to hanker after an F-style. Because of tendon problems...
I recently bought a red snark, and the instructions basically say that it can react with varnish, poly and nitro! That's virtually ALL bases covered!
It does, however, come with a little...
Hi Robert,
I'm afraid I can't help, but I'm also interested to know how these 2 instruments compare.
J74's again! The heavier the string, the more "heft" you get to the sound.
First of all - nice find at a great price! Congratulations!!
Regarding finish checking, I saw an Eastman 514 earlier this year which had been significantly reduced in price due to a hell of a lot...
Hi Al,
In your post #14 you said you didn't like eastmans! What changed your mind?
I can personally testify that the Eastman 505 is a great mando (I've got one). The 300 series are also nice...
Thanks for all the replies folks. A wall hanger might well be the way to go - but I'm not sure my wife would appreciate the one with the giant hands!
Hi folks,
just after a bit of opinion. I have several guitars, which are "rotated" on a fairly regular basis so that they all get played. The unplayed ones live in cases, the "flavour of the...
