Re: Value help: 1924 Gibson F-4

Yes, the red ones do it for me, too. I had an nice f-2 as a teenager that had the same coloring. The red ones really seem like they are from another era.

    Re: Gibson Pick Guard issues

Instead of felt, I found an old camera case with a fairly thin leather strap in my garage, and cut the strap for use as cushioning. Once glued to the clamp, no more worries about scratching.

I am no sound expert, but I've played a lot of gigs and have tried to pay attention to what works.

Re: Here's why I keep my pickguard attached.

Take a look at O'Brien's Nugget, as well as many other pro's. :)

Is it more important to restrain your style so that some future investor will be able to invest in your instrument and store it in...

Re: hey another f-4 thread.....please help

The scroll break is pretty insignificant, although it looks poorly repaired. That's a very common break and wouldn't bother most buyers. The neck crack is more disconcerting as the cause and repair...

Relative to the problem of subjectivity and what one hears when they're talking about a broken-in instrument: I'm reminded of the discussions about varnished as versus lacquer finishes. In that case,...

    Re: radiused v flat fingerboard

I prefer a slight radious, but if I like an instrument, then I'll adjust to the fretboard if I can. I have a couple of very old Gibsons and playing those means dealing with a thicker neck and smaller...

It sounds like you might have the pc viewer. I think there is a free mac viewer. This is one program I don't mind paying for, however, as I use it extensively as a practice tool.

Re: The business of the Mandolin business
