I think the average person actually has no idea what a mandolin is beyond a vague idea that it is a musical instrument.

So I ended up getting this - Gator GBE-UKE-TEN Ukulele Bag for Tenor Ukulele - I found it on amazon and my KF is safe and snug.

Thanks Jamie! I'll give them a call tomorrow. I was also thinking that a gig bag for mandola or a tenor ukulele might work as well. The ukulele bag might be more readily available.
