The Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival is coming up soon in Pittsboro. http://shakorihillsgrassroots.org
And then there is Pine Cone - the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music - tha does some...
There are / were at least two Larry Browns. One in CA who apparently passed, another in the Asheville NC area - who at last report was alive and well. This Larry Brown is both an astoundingly...
Okey dokey. The only photos I have of #500 is the one Bill posted here. #500 is the two-point. Can't figure out how to add a photo so I'll just add a link to the original posting. ...
Thanks for the great suggestions. Long intrigued by Jonathan Mann's design and work, I had forgotten about that as an option. His webpage list ff hole octaves at a $2700 base price. And Seņor...
Intrigued with the body design / shape of the 30s Kay Kraft and looking around, I have come across a few remarks about these instruments that tend to make me want to look away. Namely that the neck...
This prices are a tad out of my - and I suspect many - leagues. But having said that, there are a couple of clip sna previous chat floating around that feature the Weber Octar. What a great...
So, then, it sounds like the notion of something smallish-bodied, while perhaps convenient and cute, might well be lacking on the sound side of the equation, particularly the bass part of that - if I...
I have lately been excited about getting an OM as a friendly alternative, but look at all the offerings out there and am less than enthused. And then I looks at what some progressive makers are...
Wow, what a beauty. I am not sure that, being an early one, #30, that compensated bridges were used. My #77 (B style) has a non-compensated bridge. But then again again it also has a radiused...
"a true small guitar bodied O.M. is on the list…"
Mark me down for one of these - right now. Seriously. This is what I have been looking for. Any others have that same thought?

IMHO - no one gets the oval hole package together better than Bill Bussmann / Old Wave. Read Trevor Moyle or Mandolin Bros. descriptions - they will tell you a fair amount. Then talk to Bill - he's...
Count me in, even whilst in St. Petersburg Russia. Will give them a run when back in the States.
I have a 1907, #5989, sort of identified as an A-3, although I am not sure those designations were used then. It has the Orville label and pineapple tailpiece, as well as inlaid pickguard with...
You guys need to back off a bit. The seller is not trying to cheat or defraud anyone. He bought and was trying to sell a mandolin that he knew little about, let alone who Lloyd Loar was. He pulled...
Thanks for the heads-up you AK guys. Will be paying attention and might just pop up.
I hear there is the Great Klondike Intl Outhouse Race in Dawson City on Sep 3! Yahoo!

Long-put-off road trip to AK happening late Aug / all of Sep. Any great venues / events that ought to be aimed for? Calgary, Lake Louise, Yukon, Tok, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Homer, Haines,...

Why not... A HalfMoon dog is delicious. Count me in, with thanks.

It seems to me that the point is that some of us "work" to explore eBay and other venues to find vintage instruments that we might be interested in, that we might buy if we thing the price is right,...
Seems like the NewsFetcher takes away much of the adventure of the searching - rather like the WalMartization of the whole vintage experience. I too am seriously not a fan of this to-the-masses...
I scrape some criss-cross grids into both sides of the Wegen wit the tip of a sharp knife to improve grip - if those get worn down or smooth just cut them in again. Grips fairly well.
Someone help me out here please... Is this a regular snakehead or some variation on an A-2 with a snake-type head. No date or serial number available. Thanks.
...
So, is this A2 a "real" snakehead? Don't they typically have different features - i.e. not usually a natural top finish, different trim details, etc? No serial number, no date - any guesses?
