Frank, I would love to hear you do "Save The Last Dance For Me".
Love this kinda stuff Frank. So much of what I find online is played at such breakneck pace that my brain can't even keep up listening to it. Your stuff is mellow and relaxing. You are exactly the...
Kentucky is fond of calling the wood they use for back and sides "Alpine Maple", which seems strange to me. Alpine means to me high mountains, and I was under the impression that Maple is a much...
The 855 showed up yesterday. Very nice setup by Banjo Ben's. It's gorgeous (love that cherry sunburst) and sounds great. I find no defects or substandard workmanship.
I have a new Kentucky KM-855 on order. I have done lots of searching both inside and outside the Cafe, but most of what I have found has to do with the previous model of the 855, which was uhhhh not...

I took the mando to Gary Vessel. What a super nice guy! I didn't have an appointment or anything just a walk-in. I explained what I was hearing, but strangely I did not hear it when he was playing...
Thanks so much. I will get in touch with him today.
Michael
I know. Those guys are awesome. I guess I will call them. You have to schedule an appt these days, and I guess I could ship it to them to not have to make that long drive dealing with Bay Area...
Hello
I have what is supposed to be a good quality mandolin that is in excellent cosmetic shape, but I am not happy with the sound. It’s an Eastman MD-515.
The problem with it is dead,...
I too am interested to know what's involved in an Eastman cast tp to Allen or James tps.
Wow! A month and a half, and only a few days on that instrument? Yer gonna be a monster! And the mandolin sounds great!
I don't think there is any reason for your left forearm to be hurting, if you are playing with proper technique. Make sure your arm is relaxed from shoulder to fingertips. Make sure your wrist is...
The long-running "third Monday" bluegrass jams at the Amnesia Bar in San Francisco's Mission district have changed... they are now scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, from 6:30PM to...
http://axe-essories.com/ seems to be the USA distributor for the Hiscox guitar, saxaphone and violin cases. No mandolin cases though...
Sorry folks, but THIS is clearly the winner:

No purfling on the back, no purfling around the headstock, no fancy inlay in the headstock. That all saves on labor, and in MY opinion improves the looks. I don't like ornate mandolins.
If I had known about the Eastman economy F-style I would likely have bought it instead of the Rover RM-75 I bought. I really like the understated appearance, it reminds me so much of the custom...
"Bile dem Cabbage Down" makes me cry too, especially since it runs incessantly in the background of one of the California gubernatorial political commercials here.
I will believe lemon oil is right for fingerboards when I see ebony and rosewood trees slathering it on like suntan lotion. ;-)
Last time I had a near perfect joint I was incapable of doing much more than eating a family size bag of Cheetos and taking a nap.
I saw a video of Chuck Berry on YouTube, and it looked like all six strings were uncut. Not coiled or anything, just waving around.
I keep a microfiber cloth nearby when I am playing. I always wipe the back of the neck and the strings down when I finish playing, and if there is any discomfort while playing I will wipe the neck...
All I said was that I believe Frank Ford. I didn't say anything at all about anyone else.
Because I know Frank, and I don't know any of the others. And you might consider trying decaf.
