What a giant bowl back mandolin!
XS strings do indeed seem to sound good longer than uncoated strings but not better than uncoated, so the real benefit is not having to change strings as often. Then there is this, when I think...
Please report your findings about tonal changes with the heavier strings after you give them a try. I never seem to be satisfied with the A strings tone on most mandolins.
Perhaps the takeaway from all this is that the product Mando with its active ingredient (alpha-hydroxy acid) is actually effective in removing cat urine odor from a mandolin case.
And then there's "bowl" for bowl back mandolin. More grating to hear than "tater bug" when bowl back flows off the tongue just fine.
i got the "invisible cream unscented." and the tube was empty.
And then there's the case of the left-handed player who is dyslexic.
We usually start a set with some humor. My band mate has a gift for delivering jokes with ease and an encyclopedic joke knowledge few possess. After we finished our first tune someone yelled out...
Yes indeed and then there is the harp player to deal with. It only makes sense for the fattest string to have the fattest number and the thinnest one the thinnest number. They figured this out 400...
I have and have had mandolins with very similar looking finish cracking in one place or another. Thes are common on older instruments, you need not worry further with it.
I always thought a luthier was someone who could build an instrument from scratch, from selecting the wood to cutting and shaping the pieces and then the assembly and finally the binding and the...
As someone who knows little about bowl back mandolins but would like to own one someday this information is very helpful. Perhaps someone (David) would give a general outline of the types of...
Playing old timey music.
On first glance I feel you are correct in your suspicions regarding quality. Does the neck attach with screws? Nevertheless, if the action is decent and since it has a pickup, it may do a fine job...
The difference can usually be noticed in the size of the pores in the wood. Ebony has very small, tight pores whereas the rosewood will show larger, longer pores. Give the fret board a good...
The answer.
I'm curious how Marty's mandolin is tuned on this.
Agree with Ray(T), eastern European. The zero fret and slotted head point that way. The whole thing looks very nice indeed. The inside of the back is interesting, sort of a Christmas wrapping...
Everything at Gibson will be fine now.
Wow, smokin hot.
Never tried monels and am curious about the A and E pairs. Are they just plain steel like with a PB set or are they a different monel steel composition?
That is an observation about mandolins, they're not joking.
It's hard to believe any American manufactured mandolins can compete in a marketplace flooded with imports from countries where the cost of both material and labor is lower than the U.S. For Gibson,...
What brand of mandolin are you dealing with? It looks like a poorly crafted wooden nut to me. Some people prefer a wide nut. Because of the width of the neck the nut is what is needed to suit it. ...
NYC looks more appealing to me then as compared to now.
