I'm having a little trouble with that, too. I'm wondering if an octave would be a little easier to squeeze.

I like Kentucky. Just fine for everyday use. Get one of the older ones from Japan-- so much the better.
My favorites that are still made:
Paris Swing (you would have to get one used to be under the price, but I love their sound and feel. I don't own one but I'd like to some day. Retail $500+ new,...
How old is that Hondo? It's not one of the ones when they were still made in Japan is it?
Is it laminate top or any solid?
Amazon carries a lot of Fullerton products, if you like them.

The old fashioned tweed case brings back memories.
I like them. I think they have a nice, mellow tone.
I hear they are a little tougher to set up than others, but I don't do my own adjustments.
My third favorite easily available,...
Pretty nifty.

Just worried about you going hungry.
So you've bought a mandolin AND a guitar within the last couple of weeks?
That's a lot of buying.
Beautiful inlays, I wonder how it sounds.
Anybody like Bean Blossom? Epiphone?
Someone posted some videos from a Chinese factory on Youtube.

Neat.
You can do anything with a mandolin.
Anybody experiment with any unusual tunings?
I've been experimenting with a kind of Balalaika drone.
First two sets as octaves of A, second two sets in octaves of E.
Really weird sound....
I like Alvarez guitars. Don't know much about their mandolins.
Alvarez guitars are made under the direction of a fellow from Japan. Starting in 1970, a number was stamped on the neck block which...
Wow, that's a pretty finish.
Awful lot of mandolins are made in Asia. Do you think the Asian stock market problems means some bargains ahead?
Or better yet, a crank up of American models.
What about the Pennington?
That would be interesting.
Maybe one of these?

I may be in the minority, but I actually prefer the way the A's look. Go figure.
Well, now, I thought it would be a good idea.
I thought mandolin fans might like to play a little game of naming some popular songs that didn't have a mandolin, but should have.
I'll start with the Beatles song "She's a Woman" (My love don't...
Why is the Gloucester a hundred dollars more if the Hammonton is the "top of the line?"
Now there is a third model, four if you count the A above.

Here's an even cheaper one if you like...

It stands to reason that a person new to playing a mandolin might have trouble doing a good setup. I think paying the extra $50 for someone to do it is money well spent.
Just my opinion.
