It really is just gorgeous. Do you know what Steve calls this particular color? Also, is this braced with tone bars?
I think the standard Gilchrist tailpiece has now replaced the clamshell on the Model 1s. Here's #682 from 2011:

Gorgeous mandolin! Is the fretboard elevated like a regular F5 or more like the Model 1?
Did Gibson make any mandolas and/or mandocellos with a snakehead? I didn't seen any in a quick search of the archive.
Would anyone care to share what their favorite recordings of classical, medieval, and/or Renaissance mandolin are? It would be nice to hear why you consider it a favorite as well.
I'll start it...
That was wonderful!
Here is the new video for the 1927 Embergher Orchestra 3. Apparently it was strung with Thomastiks but now the strings have been changed.

I'm trying to figure out the best tuning and strings for this mandola. From the zero fret to the 12th is 11 and 1/3 inches, which would make the scale 22 and 2/3 inches.
Would this be best strung...
I think my erroneous title for this thread has doomed it and may be too misleading to be of any use! I apologize and I will start a new thread with the correct measurements.
17 inches is the length of the fingerboard, I think I need to remeasure to determine the scale length -- would it be from the nut to the 12th fret X 2?
Hello,
I have a French-made instrument labeled as a mandola, with a scale length of 17-inches. Should this be strung as a (tenor) mandola or an octave mandolin or . . . ? It is a Dupont D-hole...
Eric shared the photos with me so I took the liberty of posting them. So gorgeous! Is it a mandola? Eric, if you would post the measurements it would help us determine what it is.

Thank you for the replies. I was quoted 3600 Euros ($5152) for the mandolin plus another 250 Euros ($357) for a reproduction tailpiece, as the original is missing. I did ask him to post another...
I saw this 1927 Embergher Orchestra #3 for sale and there is a YouTube video of it being played. It can be hard to judge the quality of a mandolin on YouTube because of the recording and playback...
Hi Alex,
Thank you for your reply. Your Embergher website has been such a great resource! What do #2 and #3 orchestra models go for these days? I have been looking around the web and have seen...
Thanks Barrangatan!
Hi Bernie,
I've had it since December 2010 and it does sound great. The neck is hefty but it doesn't bother me -- I've been playing some Indian instruments (sursringar, sitar) that have thicker...

Any thoughts on what a fair price for a Tipo A in good condition would be? What about a B?
Also, how rare is it to find them in good condition?
Thank you,
Jason
Martin,
Thank you for your comments -- your Tipo A sounds very nice by the way!
Hello,
I posted a thread about some Embergher student models here:

Would anyone who has played a Tipo A or B...

I saw this listing this morning and contacted the "seller" by an email address he stated in the listing (ppratt666@gmail.com). I believe it is a scam. He offered to sell a 1924/1925 Gibson F4 for...
