Aye, thats what i thought, thanks for your reply!:)
Sorry missed your last bit there, the sides have a slight angle to them (enough to hold it in place and stop it pulling straight out latterly.
Thats sort of what i'm asking kind of..if you zoom in on that photo you can see coarse grained wood on the bottom of the neck cavity? well that is a thin section of wood that has parted company from...
Hello,
I have this guitar to renovate and one process will be resetting the neck.
There is some tear out from the dovetail left in the body dovetail but it is very solidly glued and other than that...
Morning,
I am restoring an old bouzouki at present.
I have the body but will be carving a new neck.
I have one or two ideas for bridge / stringing configurations in mind but was wondering what...
Aye, I will probably just suck it up and get used to it....although I might pull the frets at some future point in time if it continues to bug me!
I know its only a partial / abbreviated sort of extension but it actually messes a lot with my hand position!
I dont know if anyone else has found this and if any attempts have been made to modify...
As an aside, does anyone have any tips for taking these things apart 'without' removing the vellum (which is in good nick and a nice tension).
Cheers
Oliver
Thats some neck!
The one I have is a John Grey one very like this...176395
Yep, lots of variations on a theme but this particular banjo looks like it is a 5 string using what was a modified neck off a six stringer of some sort. I suppose it might have been cheaper than...
I would say looking at this example that what you say is correct Mike...4 string slots, 5 string posts at the tail and if somehow you did manage to get six strings on it I would defy most peoples...
No Mike, it’s bizarre to say the least, but that’s us lot for you!
That would be nice but I’m not sure how well it will adhere to the board. As I said I cannot get it back to bare wood so not sure if that would be a problem?
Yes I was thinking that kind of thing and as you say Paul ..might go with a sort of satin finish.
Is that so about the unused tuner..thats interesting, just using what they have I suppose!
Also...it's a bit weird, it's obviously a 5 string but it has six tuners on the headstock (including one for the string buried in the neck)
Hello,
I have an old zither banjo in at present. The fretboard at some point has had some dents filled and the board painted a 'really' badly finished gloss black (including the frets!!).
I have...
Thanks for your advice fellas, appreciate it!
I think I have the dents out as much as they will go, I repeatedly placed a strip of flannel soaked in boiling water and placed some weight on it to...
I have just completed the bridge base and sanded to fit, not under tension Robert (but I don’t think that’s quite as important on a full contact base).
I have it so it does have a sliver of daylight...
Sorry, I just remembered I edited out the start of my post in case it was seen to be having a go at an individual!
I totally agree with you that this is a common issue over time but this mandolin...
Its hard to tell from the pics but its quite domed up between the dents so I suppose you would need to factor that into the profile of the base. It would be nice to be able to get the curve of the...
Hello,
This issue has always been in the back of my mind (especially as when the mandolin is left unused for a couple of days you get a slight pop/crack noise if you lightly put pressure on the top...
That Frank Ford is great!!
Yes, I was going to ask if Titebond original was a better alternative (and it seems like it is).
I have an old electric hot plate and a metal pot so I might just experiment with the real thing..
Couldn't find this on a cafe search but wondered if anyone has any experience with it?...
Yep,transferal of heat was my guess
Bit exessive though!
