The one in Baltimore sounds pretty cookie cutter based on whats been said here. I have bought from them, but knew what I wanted. They had it in stock and the price was right. Pretty cut and dried. No...
I played a Kentucky today that was 350.00. Dont know the model#. It was a new A style and sounded pretty dang good.
I just got back from a rather large music store. I had to put one of my MKs in for repair.(long story).
They had a used D`Angelica jazz guitar there that was 4 Grand. They also had a new Epiphone...
Im not going to do the warrantte thing. I got it second hand. Heck it might even be 3rd hans and I have no idea how old it is. I bought it right so I dont mind spending a few bucks to have it...
Thanks for the good thinking on the warranty, but I bought this used.. Ill bring it to my luthier guy tomorrow and see what he says. I still like my MKs, just had some bad luck here. I still plays...
Looking at the back with the headstock strait up,at about 7 O`clock, the back is seperating from the binding. Probably about 1.5" if it were in a straight line. Yikes!
I noticed it about 3 days ago....
Steven, I am the poster child for stage fright. I get nervous if I think my wife is listening to closely. I can really only jam with I bud of mine by 20 years. Other than that, forget it. That doesnt...
Kodiak must be wondering whats going on. He asked a question about a mandolin and got a lesson in shallow genetic pools. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
Kodiak, you...
I would love to play one of those just once. It might give me a better perspective as to why they cost so much money.
Bill. I think I counted 35 Gilchrist mandos on that list at an average of $20,000.00. I never could count decimal points. But man, thats still alot of Michael Kellys/...
If my quick calculations are right, it would be about 7oo top of the line Michael Kellys. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
I guess if I ever played one of those things I might understand. But 18 Grand! Whew! It still boggles the mind. And whats even more mind boggling is someone is gonna buy it.Guess I oughta work on...
I have a Martin DXM that has absolutely no snop appeal whatsoever. I bought it used for $200.00 but it sounds as good as my D18. Just not as loud. Its amazing how they get that Martin sound out of...
If I could afford a mandolin of that quality, the Brentrup would be my first choice. Congradulations!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Way to go Glauber......and wife.......and Daughter! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I live in Baltimore, and yeah. As mentioned before, Northern Va, DC and Maryland are hot bluegrass areas. But to move here to live is another story. Lotsa people. Lotsa traffic and lotsa crime,...
What do you use to cut that poly and what affect does it have on the stain color? Will the stain remain intact?
Dang! Very good. Shades of Leon Redbone. What a great tune. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Stop a snipers bullet, huh? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
I dont know about the removing the finish thing, but the analogy is great. I guess that could be said of...
Ive been kind of following Kentucky mandolins myself. Seems the early Japanese instruments were far superior to current production stuff and command higher prices.
Well, it sounds as though there is a degree of validity to it. Mine is off now and I swear the mandolin sounds better. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif Think Ill buy...
The tailpiece will result in better overall sound? A guy at a music store told me this.?!?! He said the cover absorbs some of the vibration transmitted. Any thoughts? Guess it would be OK,except it...
Hmmm. Really intrigued now. Is it because Sumi is the maker that makes them so special? Is there a picture of them anywhere? Are they the same size as a regular F5?
Not that I could afford the...
Wow! Thats incredible. I mean four grand opens alot of doors when buying a decent mandolin. Must be a special instrument for a special buyer. Not knocking it in any way, just dont know anything about...
