Oops...just realized you were asking about F models. The prices I mentioned were for A-5s...and that's what i own. His F models go for more $$, but they are still very reasonably priced.
Consider looking for a used mando by Howard Morris.
I have seen them on the Classifieds here for as low as $650-$700 and they are really nice mandolins.
I own one now, so perhaps I am a bit...
I completely agree with the other posters regarding the quality of Morris mandolins. I have #86 and it is awesome. I have owned other, more expensive mandolins and this a-5 stacks up with ANY of...
I had a 2007 515 with a substantial amount of finish checking on the top.
Personally, I thought it looked kind of cool...but i have strange tastes.
As for the mandolin itself, I really liked...
Wow! Very cool...those guys compliment each other quite nicely.
I've owned two Flatirons and one Bulldog. M.A.S. forced me to sell the Flatirons, but they were both very nice.
Financial disasters recently forced my hand and I had to sell the Bulldog and...
A few years back, I played a Summit mandolin that was hanging on the wall of Dusty Strings in Seattle. I a/b'd it with a handful of Collings, Rigels, (I think??) Webers and some other high end...
Two American classics....nice!
Thanks for posting! Awesome stuff. I liked the Monty best.
An add with no photos doesn't bother me. Could be that the seller isn't highly motivated...if it sells, it sells...if not, then oh well.
If I'm interested enough, I will inquire for pictures. If...
Strongly consider:
1) Buying USED.
2) A-Styles
Gotta agree....an awful name. Doesn't change the fact that I would love to get my hands on one!
Very nice mandolins at reasonable prices. He has a website with soundclips and pictures.
You should check out the Classifieds on this site. You can even post a "Cheap Chinese Mandolin With a Good Setup Wanted" kind of add!
To be honest...I don't always ENJOY playing the mandolin. Sometimes it seems that I'm in it for the challenge of learning new things as much as anything.
Don't get me wrong...I love the whole...
Hey Chris....I sold that mandolin to you. How's it treating ya? Sounds like the top stabilized? I REALLY miss that little monster!
I own Bulldog #10 (made by Barry in 2005) and I like it very much. I have said this many times before, but I plan on keeping this one for a long time.
It is very loud with great tone and balance...
If you can play the A-5 in question first....and decide that it suits you...then go for it. I wouldn't trade away a known killer without knowing exactly what you are getting in return, though.
I was Bare-Naked
High Flyin'
Out the Window....
I just bought a used instrument from The Mandolin Store and everything went very well. Great price and a great setup on the mandolin.
Duane.....YES! I have definitely experienced this strange phenomena.
I think you got a REALLY great deal, Brent! Every Carlson-signed mando I have played has been very strong.
If you are in a jam, It's nice to be able to have your playing heard without having to beat the tar out of your instrument. If you feel the need to pick/chop/strum harder in order to cut through the...
I owned one of those that was signed by Steve Carlson. It was in fact x-braced and was the LOUDEST mandolin I have ever played. Nice tone all around.
It was a great mandolin...the one that truly...
