Re: Sheet Music on a Tablet

Another vote for Mobilesheets. Great program! I run it on a Samsung Galaxay note 2014. And PDF Creator is free, and will run on about any pc.

    Good luck.

Re: Bridge Design - No Thumbscrews

    Hi Robert,

You are correct. I don't always do the best job putting my thoughts into words. I was just trying to point out that the outward appearance and the function are the nearly the same if...

This design is already in use on all new Breedlove mandolins.

Scalloped mine when I had it. It was easy to do and it helped a lot!

(What looks like an imperfection at the very tip of the extension, is a reflection or smudge.)

    Re: Lafferty LF-5D

I believe he is saying that he bought two Lafferty's. The deluxe (US built), And the import model. I have heard good things about the import, but I also know who built the deluxe, and it is an...

I would have to vote Summit. But I am biased.

  10. Re: Anyone know of FURCH mandolins? Czech Republic maker...

The Mandolin Store has a really sharp looking Furch F. Dennis says it really sounds good and it looks like a nice price too.

  11. Re: Will have around $2500, any good F Styles in that price range

+1 on the Lafferty. I own 2. However they have a different sound than a Collings. More like a really loud and woody Gibson. I haven't found a banjo yet that either one of them can't hang with.

  12. Re: Ok...so I have $2000 to spend, what should I do?

    Phillip,

I don't believe I said, and definatley didn't mean to infer, that you were saying anything negative about Dennis. If I came across that way, you have my apology. I was just trying to...
  13. Re: Ok...so I have $2000 to spend, what should I do?

Most of the Laffertys are built right here in the good ole US of A. There is one Asian built model that Dennis offers for a price point, but if you look at his site, it is very prominently noted...
  14. Re: Ok...so I have $2000 to spend, what should I do?

The Mandolin Store is great, and you could get an awesome USA built Lafferty well within your price range. I have owned many of the brands mentioned in this thread, some much more expensive than the...

    Re: 2006 Eastman

I'm pretty sure that if it were a 915, it would have maple binding instead of ivoroid. Looks like a very nice 815.

    Re: built-in pickups, instrument value

I would personally never consider a pickup that required anything more than drilling the endpin hole. There are many great pickups that would require nothing more than this. My personal favorite is...

    Re: Fraternal Twins!

Well, I did sell an Eastman 504 when I got the F. It certainly didn't make up for it, but it helped. I would have to say that I am truly blessed to have such an understanding wife.

  19. Re: Can somebody PLEASE tell me what mandolin I'm dreaming about?

Could be a Lafferty. Simple understated elegance, plays like butter, incredible sound, made in USA, and in your price range. Note: Some of the Lafferty A's have a flat fretboard. But it is...

I actually bought the A first. I went to about twelve jams in five weeks with it in Ohio and Virginia, and everywhere I went, never having seen a Lafferty, other players would actually turn to me...

And don't forget all the ads in the mandolin section for guitars, banjos, other stringed instruments, accessories, etc., when there is clearly a specialized category for the item.

Do you mean a top with two different species of wood or do you simply mean a two piece top? I believe that most mandolin tops these days are two piece.
